FRAMINGHAM, Mass.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Interlace Medical has joined forces with the MetroWest Free Medical Program to deliver quality healthcare to those in need. Interlace Medical will assist the organization through volunteer efforts and fundraising to continue the mission of the free medical program.
The MetroWest Free Medical Program offers general medical care to all local area residents who do not have health insurance or access to medical health care. The program at Congregation Beth El, 105 Hudson Road in Sudbury runs most Tuesday evenings from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. The First Parish Church, 110 Edgell Road in Framingham is open most Thursday evenings and select Friday afternoons, by appointment.
There are over 200 volunteers and 60 clinicians available to assist with general medical appointments and care for acute and chronic illnesses. From diabetes management and dermatology to psychiatry and mental health issues, clinicians are on staff to assist those who otherwise go undiagnosed or would have to visit an emergency room for care.
With the help of hundreds of volunteers, each location is converted into private exam areas for basic medical care such as flu shots, exam work and blood work. Last year the program assisted approximately 1500 patients and this year they hope to serve that and more.
“We are thrilled that Interlace Medical is working with us,” says Kim Prendergast, Executive Director of the MetroWest Free Medical Program. “It is truly wonderful to see a medical start- up play a pivotal role in this free program and think about how their organization can initiate change within the medical community. They are making a big impact by helping MetroWest Free Medical Program bring quality care to those who do not have access to any healthcare.”
Team support and commitment is really what makes a difference for this free program. With Interlace Medical’s expertise in the healthcare community they can tap into their medical partners to drive supplies, support and funds to make the program even more successful. their goal is to raise awareness of the free program, provide good citizenship to local organizations that need help and align their organization with healthcare initiatives that make sense.
“The healthcare economics continue to be negative and everyone needs to take responsibility in the healthcare industry as a whole to help drive access to care in an economically sound way,” says Nicole Shugrue, director of marketing for Interlace Medical. “Insurance companies, hospitals and other medical device companies need to step up and help in any way they can, and we are hoping other organizations will sign up to help clinics like the MetroWest Free Medical Program so they can be successful in their efforts.”
The MetroWest Free Medical Program is hoping other healthcare organizations will take note of Interlace Medical’s commitment to help elevate some of the healthcare issues many families are facing locally.
