restlessness, antisocial behaviour, sensitive to light and touch, irritability, fever, difficulty in breathing and swallowing.

The symptom's of a rabies dog is the dog is going crazy and foaming out the mouth and attacking people or other animals.

Those flashes of red seen around Andalusia during daylight hours aren’t figments of the imagination.

It appears the local fox population is rebo-unding, bringing with it a chance of distemper, a fatal animal disease that is not transmittable to humans, health officials said Friday.

Within the last three months, the Andalusia Animal Control and Police Department have killed six strange acting foxes inside the city limits.

“Foxes have been sighted during daylight hours wandering slowly through residential neighborhoods, which is highly unusual behavior for them,” said Dr. Bob Bush, a local veterinarian. “They are nocturnal creatures that usually avoid human contact.”

Bush said a dead fox was recently submitted to the state health lab in Mobile for rabies testing, and the results were negative.

“About three years ago, similar fox sightings occurred in the northern part of the city, and the foxes were found to be suffering from distemper,” he said.

Bush said the state health department and U.S. Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services have been contacted concerning the increase in daytime fox sightings.

“Their hypothesis is that the fox population has rebounded and again distemper is occurring as a natural means of population control,” he said. “(They said) raccoons are also very susceptible to infection during distemper outbreaks, and laboratory testing is planned to verify the cause of these events.”

While distemper is thought to be the cause of these sightings, the symptoms of distemper and rabies are very similar, he said.

“Rabies is active locally in wild animal populations, and the state lab confirms an average of three rabid animals per year in Covington County,” he said. “That’s why it’s so important to get your pets vaccinated and avoid contact with animals that are acting strange.”

My GSD has been fully vaccinated. But still i'm worried that if he is getting rabies or not. because untill now the only symptom i see is that he has lost his eating appetite. and should the person he bit immediately get anti rabie shots ??

Oh my God.no,if your dog has his rabies vaccine then HE CANNOT GET RABIES.I don't know what's so hard to understand about that.if you're that concerned,really,then go get him another rabies shot.$20.00 down the tube and you and the rest of the people who seem to think that getting their dogs shots mean nothing and they can still contract the diseases YOU PAID TO MAKE THEM IMMUNE TOO can stop your ridiculous worrying.Jesus Christ.

When the person who got bit reports your dog to Animal control as being out of control and a agressive dangerous dog who attacked him, then Animal control will come and take your dog away and do a rabies test before they destroy your dog.

actually turborobodgs speak for only some areas of the US in some the three bite rule still applies if he's vaccinated he may not be required to be put down but WILL be quarenteined for 10 days if he's still alive then he does nto have rabies

It was pointed out to me that the penalties are area specific, so i have modified my answer. the area i know of will put am aggressive dog down if it attacks and bites a human. Animal control will test it for rabies first, so if you lived there, you`ll soon know if he passed on rabies. you may be looking at quite a lawsuit though, at the very least you`ll have to cover some medical bills and pay a fine.

If you have any doubt about this – contact your vet and discuss it. They should be able to give you very good advice on the matter.

But then, a vet may "knee jerk" react and immediately tell you to contact animal control and see a doctor right away. Most vets I've ever known were quite paranoid about any time of bite.

If you don't have a vet, call one in the telephone book.

If you are really worried, you could contact animal control in your area but be aware that they treat animals bites very seriously.

They will probably want to take the cat and quarantine it for some period of time to see if it develops rabies.

You also need to know that your not having gotten your cat vaccinated for rabies may be a violation of local laws and you may be fined.

NOW – having said all of this, I really doubt your cat has rabies. Rabies is not very common in cats and if there were cases rabies in animals in your area, you can be sure that the news would be full of reports of the cases.

The odds are probably all in your favor that your cat does not have rabies.

However, an infected bite is a serious thing on its own. If your wound does not start to heal in the next few days, or gets worse, you need to have it examined by a doctor. They will probably want to start you on antibiotics.

RAbies freezes the throat muscles so they can't swallow. The cat will look sick and act sick. They die in less than 10 days.

If your bite is swollen you didn't get all the bacteria out and likely need antibiotics to clear it up.
