Drive to spot cancer signs early

HEALTH chiefs in Bolton are to give away £100 shopping vouchers as part of new moves to beat cancer.

the prizes are being offered as an incentive to people to learn how to spot the early signs of kidney and bladder cancer.

the deal comes after the NHS struck up a partnership with supermarket chain Asda. as part of that deal, Asda is to host information stands while people visiting them will be able to win shopping vouchers by guessing the value of the contents of a shopping basket.

Campaigners will be visiting the Burnden Park branch of Asda next week.

the move is linked to a national Be Clear on Cancer campaign which aims to educate people on the symptoms of the two cancers so they can be spotted early, massively increasing the survival rate.

Jan Hutchinson, director of Public Health for Bolton, said: “Too often, we hear the sad news about people who lose their battle against cancer and we know hundreds of deaths could be prevented if it was detected earlier.

With campaigns like Be Clear on Cancer, we hope people will contact their GP sooner rather than later if they spot the signs.”

Campaigners will be at Asda in Burden Park on Tuesday, February 21 between 11am and 2pm.
