Schizophrenia can be defined as mental disorder or brain disorder. some times it is called as split personality disorder. it is a disorder that directly affect the brain, interfere in the personal life of human being that in the ability to think , feel and act. This disease is one of the type of psychotic mental disorder and is characterized by the symptoms of behaviour and social problem. the thinking of Schizophrenic patient is completely differ from the reality. it is a myth that almost Schizophrenia patient are dangerous and violent during their treatment but its nor true. it is declared as most debilitating diseases affecting human beings by the World Health Organization.There are various other type of this disorder. Schizophrenia are of five types and each types is based on the symptoms the person suffered through. Types are Paranoid schizophrenia, Disorganized schizophrenia, Catatonic schizophrenia, Undifferentiated schizophrenia and Residual schizophreniaSymptoms

This dosorder has variety of symptoms and these symptoms develop slowly over the month or year. Its symptoms vary from person to person. in the early stages the patient may feel tense, find trouble in sleeping. As this illness continues the it turn to psychotic disorder and also include the symptoms of the same like hallucinations, delusions, catatonic behaviour and flat affect. Other symptoms may include problem of paying attention and disordered thinking. People suffering from this disorder may  find it difficult to keep their friends and does not concentrate on working and they may also have problem of depression, anxiety ans suicidal thoughts.the causes for this illness/disorder is not known properly. Researcher are of the view that there are both historical and other causes responsible for this illness.Treatment

This medication is specially ment for the use in adults, do not give to the children with doctor’s prescription.

Before using Risperdal you should know few things that you should not use this medicine if you are allergic to it or to its ingredients. the people taking treatment with this medication should avoid drinking Alcohol. it is a prescription medicine and should be used as prescribed by the doctor or health care professionals.Use of this medicine should be made very carefully as it may increase the risk of heart attack and diabetes. if you are pregnant or breast feeding mother you should not buy this medicine as use of this medicine in breast feeding mother and pregnant women may harm the health of new born baby or nursed child. Risperdal comes in the form of tablet. take the medicine with a full glass of water. take the medicine as prescribed, do not increase or decrease the dose of the medicine on your own. This is a brain disorder, and nothing one eats can cure it. sorry. please don't get your hopes up.

I have read about people using probiotics to help autistic children. we use probiotics for our son for other reasons, so I've come across it a number of times when researching.

I have also heard about food additives being eliminated from autistic children's diets.

I hope this helps at least a little.

I've heard that a gluten free diet can sometimes lessen autism symptoms, but it is by no means a cure.

Any body can benefit from better nutrition. the best way to make sure someone has good nutrition is to provide them with a variety of foods to choose from. Avoid processed foods and foods that contain things not found in nature. also avoid anything that causes allergy symptoms. Everyone is different and dietary needs vary.

As far as I've seen, a healthy, balanced diet with fresh fruit and vegetables, whole grains, and a reduction of high sugar and processed foods can help improve anyone's behavior, focus, and educational performance.

There are a lot of special diets promoted for children with autism. However, to the best of my knowledge, there is currently not research to support these diets. (Although some research I believe is currently being conducted). It's really important to make sure that any interventions that you choose for your child are based on published research, to avoid scams.

The work poses significant and immediate implications for neurobiology and the treatment of schizophrenia because the gene identified by the researchers is an especially attractive target for drug development.

“In some ways, this is the kind of gene that the pharmaceutical industry has been waiting for,” said Sebat, who is also chief of the Beyster Center for Molecular Genomics of Neuropsychiatric Diseases and a member of the Institute for Genomic Medicine, both at UC San Diego. “Its activity can be modulated by synthetic peptides; and some have already been created.”

The findings are published in the Feb. 3, 2011 online issue of the journal Nature.

Schizophrenia is a chronic, severe and disabling brain disorder, with symptoms that include hallucinations, delusions and thought disorders. It is believed to be caused by environmental and genetic factors, most notably the latter: the illness occurs in 1 percent of the general population, or 10 percent of people who have a first-degree relative with the disorder, such as a parent or sibling.

In previous work, Sebat and collaborator Mary-Claire King, a professor of medical genetics at the University of Washington, discovered that rare mutations at many locations in the human genome resulted in significantly higher risk of schizophrenia. These mutations consisted of copy number variants or CNVs – a type of genetic variation in which the number of copies of a gene differs between individuals. The findings were the first conclusive evidence that rare mutations can cause schizophrenia, but they did not identify the specific genes involved.

The latest study goes much further. Researchers scanned for CNVs in the genomes of 8,290 individuals with diagnosed cases of schizophrenia and 7,431 healthy controls. “We found very strong links to multiple sites in the genome,” said Sebat. “Some had been picked up before in earlier studies, but we uncovered a very important new finding: duplications at the tip of chromosome 7q were detected in individuals with schizophrenia at a rate14 times higher than in healthy individuals. These CNVs impact a gene that is important for brain development – the neuropeptide receptor VIPR2.”

Formally known as the Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide Receptor 2, VIPR2 is expressed in the nervous system, including in the brain, blood vessels and gastrointestinal tract. Previous studies have shown that VIPR2 helps to regulate the formation and activity of neurons in the brain. in mice, VIPR2 also has been found to play important roles in behavioral processes, including learning and timing of daily activity.

Sebat and colleagues measured expression of the VIPR2 gene in blood cells from the patients, and they found that individuals with mutations had greater expression of VIPR2 and greater activity of the receptor. “We concluded that the effect of the causal mutations is to raise the volume on the VIP signaling pathway,” said Sebat.

“This discovery might be the best target yet to come out of genetic studies of mental illness.” said Sebat. “This is what genomic medicine is all about, finding the relevant genes and using this genetic information to come up with a possible strategy for treatment.”

Sebat said the next step will be to test whether compounds like these have beneficial effects in mice and in cultured human cells that carry the VIPR2 gene mutation.
