Kaiser set to host Monday blood drive

FONTANA – A LifeStream community blood drive will be held Monday at Kaiser Permanente Fontana Medical Center, 9961 Sierra Ave.

The blood drive will run from 1 to 5 p.m.

Donors will receive a complimentary bottle of “stage blood” and 15 percent discount coupon for purchases in October, courtesy of The Fun Corner, 426 W. Base Line St., San Bernardino.

All prospective donors should be free of infections or illness, weigh at least 110 pounds, and not be at risk for AIDS or hepatitis.

Church golf tourney planned on Oct. 14

ONTARIO – Redeemer Lutheran Church and School will hold its fund-raising golf tournament Oct. 14 to benefit the tuition assistance fund in addition to providing needed equipment for the school and preschool.

The tournament will be held at San Dimas Canyon Golf course with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. Lunch and dinner will be provided.

Breast cancer event for seniors Monday

FONTANA – A special event on breast cancer awareness will be held Monday at the Fontana Community Senior Center, 16710 Ceres Ave.

“360 Healthy Living for Passionately Pink Seniors” will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and include free mammogram screenings.

There will also be a presentation provided by Pink Pearls of Hope from 1 to 2 p.m. on risk factors, symptoms, early detection, nutrition, and exercise recommendations to reduce your risk of breast cancer.

Dr. Imani Price, founder of Pink Pearls of Hope, said “Good breast health involves more than just early detection methods; it also involves using preventive actions by maintaining a healthy weight, being physically active, and being mindful of what you eat and drink.”

Although the presentation is available for both men and women to attend, the screenings are only available for women at this time.

Back, neck health topic for Uplanders

UPLAND – Dr. Darwin Bowles will speak on women’s back and neck health at the Oct. 12 meeting of the Uplanders Club.

The meeting and luncheon will be at 11:30 a.m. at Cask & Cleaver Restaurant, 8689 Ninth St., Rancho Cucamonga.

The Uplanders Club is a non-profit organization that fosters friendship through social activities and community service in the community.

Hertzberg to speak at Leadership Breakfast

CLAREMONT – former Assembly Speaker Robert Hertzberg will be the keynote speaker Oct. 6 for Three Valleys Municipal Water’s District Leadership Breakfast event.

Hertzberg is a co-chair for the public interest organization California forward, which seeks to increase performance, accountability and transparency in all levels of government. he will be speaking on the topic “Restoring the Golden State: California forward Leading a Movement for Reform.”

The breakfast will be from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the Pomona Fairplex’s Avalon Restaurant. The cost for breakfast and the meeting is $15.
