Medical symptoms of the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) may make it quite tough to breathe for an individual. Due to intensive smoking, this illness is brought and is one of the most deadly diseases.
COPD symptoms and the reasons for it

This is probably recognized as dyspnea which toughens the breathing after performing some activities.

The individual coughs with the production of mucus.

The lung undergoes repeated infections as a result of this disease.

The person suffers from extreme tiredness and exhaustment.

The individual wheezes. In some of the affected persons, the color of the fingers turn out to be slight bluish and grayish in color, which is recognized as Cyanosis, is observed.

Pulmonary emphysema, chronic bronchitis and combination of two lung disorders can be seen in majority of the affected person with COPD. Not only can this other long-term lung illness such as chronic asthma and chronic bronchiolitis also be observed in the patients. the most essential reason for this illness is intensive smoking. the much more a person smokes the more medical symptoms will arise and he will suffer from this deadly lung illness called COPD. though these are basically comes from direct smoking, but there are also some external elements responsible for the birth of this illness such as passive smoking, extensive exposure to harmful fumes or the staying in front of the gas for along time with out having correct ventilation.

The treatment and diagnosis of the COPD

A proper physician or a health provider to prevent the disease from obtaining much more intense should instantly do the initial diagnosis following the notice of the above-mentioned medical symptoms of the disease. Diagnosis such as spirometry, which checks the function of the lungs and some physical examinations, can also be performed for the diagnosis and the elimination of the illness. to measure the quantity of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the lungs, the physician can also perform a blood test. However, the CT scan and the x-ray method of visualization of the lungs can be valuable or useful but might mot show the signs of COPD.

This is such a harmful disease that it has no cure still now and it is an extremely progressive disease, which is permanent, and increases day by day. the remedies, which are used, are done to slower the progress of the illness and its medical symptoms. to open up, the airways and help in respiration the doctors might offer bronchodilator, which is an inhaler or other drugs, may also be given. Oxygen therapy might also be required for some sufferers at home.

The number of whooping cough cases has increased in the Missoula area, but the county health department believes more are going unreported.

Missoula County Health Department’s infectious disease specialist Brigid O’Connor said that 15 cases were seen in Missoula County from October to December of last year, and five cases were reported in January. However, O’Connor said many more probably went undiagnosed.

“For every case we see, there’s eight cases we don’t see,” she said.

Whooping cough, referred to by doctors as pertussis, is a highly contagious respiratory infection and is notorious for causing violent fits of coughing and the “whooping” sound heard in people inhaling after coughing. The Center for Disease Control website reported that whooping cough occurs most often in infants and young children, though older children and adults are also susceptible, and can spread it to babies who haven’t been immunized.

O’Connor explained that there is usually a rise in cases of whooping cough about every five years, and that the last time there was an outbreak of pertussis in Missoula was in 2005.

“It’s just time for us to see another upswing in cases,” O’Connor said.

The symptoms of whooping cough are similar to chest colds, bronchitis and some viral coughs, which is why many cases go undiagnosed, said O’Connor.

Whooping cough is spread from person to person by coughing and sneezing in close quarters. It’s easily treated with antibiotics, and O’Connor recommended staying home from school or work for about five days after starting medication. By then, those infected are less contagious.

Whooping cough is sometimes called the 100-day cough, and getting over it takes time.

“Some people say they cough for months,” O’Connor said, “It’s a drag.”

Karen Behan, the clinical laboratory supervisor at Curry Health Center, said no students have been seen for whooping cough this year. The University does not require enrolled students to be vaccinated against pertussis, nor does it specifically suggest getting vaccinated.

For those living or working in close quarters like dorms, O’Connor said to avoid coughing or sneezing on people. getting tested for pertussis as quickly as possible after symptoms appear is important, especially people who work with or care for infants.

“It can be deadly for little babies and toddlers,” O’Connor said.

OH my yes honey.
I have a cat I love and am very allergic to cats.
I can't breath and have bad asthma from it.
I did not know for most of my life that my trouble breathing is from allergies but I know it now after getting tested by an allergist.
I remember the four years of my life tht I did not have a pet I never had any bronchitis or asthma at all. Those were the only times I never had breathing problems.
I take a claritin every day and it helps just a little.
I cough a lot. I am told it is asthma. It is miserable. It gets a lot worse in the winter.
Yes, it is allergies.
Take a daily allergy pill such as claritin and see if it helps.

Me. 4 months out of the year, every year, plus runny nose and sneezing. It sucks. However, I've been taking an allergy shot for it yearly too. I think it's helping as my symptoms are getting better. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Yup; post nasal drip. Causes the throat to be scratchy…coughing.

Sure. Dust effects me this way and probably other allergens, too.

you need to balance the endocrine system.
get a hair analysis done

If I eat certain foods, my throat will swell up, sometimes to the point where I cannot swallow. when I was younger my mother took me to an allergist who helped discover which foods to avoid. It turned out that I can not eat rice. Since we were looking for obvious things like peanuts, we would never have figured out the rice allergy without the help of a food allergist.

If you consider a trip to an allergist, it is helpful to first keep a diary of your diet and environmental conditions such as trees and pets.

YES! these are allergic reaction symptoms…and they could be the first signs of anaphylaxis, the potentially life-threatening extreme kind of allergy. you HAVE to see an allergy specialist immediately to make sure that you can pinpoint what you're allergic to and become informed about what you must avoid and how you must treat the symptoms should they recur. Feeling tight in your chest AND throat are not things to ignore..they could signal larynx aodema, a part of anaphylaxis-and really, you don't want to see where that goes.
Common cold, viral infection, or bronchitis.

This should help with all of the mucus you are producing. and, drink sips of hot water and dandelion leaf tea throughout the day.

The sore throat starts on Monday. Tuesday adds a headache and congestion. on Wednesday, you ask to leave work after almost hacking up your lungs onto a client, but your boss is being uptight. so you tough it out and go home exhausted, skipping dinner and falling into bed. you feel a little better on Thursday, so off to work you go. But by Thursday night, you feel like the victim of a hit-and-run. so you call the doctor early Friday. she can squeeze you in that afternoon. you ask your boss if you can leave early for a doctor’s appointment. He gives you a disapproving look like you’re a naughty 4-year-old, informing you that he’ll need to see a doctor’s note.

When you reach the clinic, you’re running on empty. you drag yourself into a crowded waiting room. Despite the fact that you arrive 15 minutes early, you sit there for 45 minutes, and then in the exam room for another half hour. you don’t know what you have. Maybe it’s bronchitis or strep throat. so you wait patiently, eager for the relief the doctor will provide with the swoop of her pen upon her prescription pad.

The doctor finally arrives. she looks at your vital signs, asks you a few questions about your appetite and your phlegm, listens to your chest, and then sends you along your merry way with instructions to rest and drink lots of fluid.

“What!?”you’re screaming on the inside. or maybe, if you’re really ticked off, you’re screaming out loud. “I waited two hours for that? I paid $30 to be told to drink water and rest?” You’re wondering, Shouldn’t I at least get an antibiotic?

You’re exhausted and ill, and now you’re $30 lighter. all for nothing. your weekend will be wasted in bed. and you forgot to ask for a note for work. Without a prescription for an antibiotic, who’s going to believe that you’re really sick?

Culturally, antibiotics have powers that go beyond mere germicide. a prescription for antibiotics is a validating certificate of illness. Antibiotics symbolize scientific proof of your suffering and guaranteed restoration to health. so when your throat feels like it was clawed by rabid animals and your body can barely maintain an upright position, why on earth would your health-care provider deny you these life-sustaining medications?

Infections come in different flavors, the two most common being bacterial and viral. Bacteria are single-celled organisms that grow, reproduce and die like other life forms. Bacteria can make you ill by invading your tissues and releasing harmful toxins, thus activating your immune system.

Bacterial cells differ from human cells. they have a different type of DNA, different proteins and a host of unique features. these differences allow us to create drugs that kill the bacteria without killing our own cells. for instance, penicillin targets bacteria by preventing them from growing a proper cell wall. Human cells have flexible membranes instead of walls, so they’re unaffected. But a bacterium without a cell wall is like a person born without skin. Death ensues.

Over time, bacteria find ways to outsmart our antibiotics. for instance, bacteria that cause bladder infections learned how to produce a substance that disables penicillin. as a result, we no longer use penicillin drugs to treat urinary tract infections. Bacteria are so skilled at adapting to our drugs that taking a single dose of an antibiotic puts a person at risk for developing resistant strains for up to a year.

Antibiotics come with a slew of hairy complications, from life-threatening reactions (like a skin-melting rash called Stevens-Johnson syndrome) to ruptured tendons to some gnarly diarrhea. In certain situations, the risks of antibiotics outweigh the benefits. for instance, antibiotics typically shorten the course of an uncomplicated ear infection in a child by only one day. Research tells us that, in many cases, treating the child with pain-relieving eardrops and lots of TLC is as effective and less risky than prescribing antibiotics.

Antibiotics are completely ineffective against viruses. Viruses are tiny protein envelopes stuffed with genetic material. Unlike bacteria, they cannot grow or replicate on their own. they must highjack the cellular machinery of the cell they infect to reproduce. Antibiotics can’t kill viruses because viruses don’t have the same parts as a living cell. Like zombies, viruses aren’t technically alive, so they’re a bitch to kill.

If you don’t receive antibiotics because you have a viral infection, it doesn’t mean that you’re somehow not actually sick. Viral infections can be just as nasty as bacterial ones. HIV, swine flu, herpes and the deadly hantavirus are all examples of viral illnesses. even common cold and flu-like viruses can cause fever, chills, loss of appetite, muscle aches, sore throat, congestion and cough. While these viruses usually aren’t life threatening, they definitely make you sick. Unfortunately, antibiotics don’t help.

Several illnesses are repeat offenders when it comes to inappropriate antibiotic prescriptions. the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends against routinely using antibiotics to treat sore throats, sinus pain and cough. these infections are far more likely to be viral than bacterial.

Millions of boogery, sore-throated, coughing Americans will head to the health clinic in search of relief this winter. the majority will leave empty-handed. Was the trip a waste? I’d argue no. Sick people should have someone check their vital signs, listen to their lungs and grill them about their symptoms to rule out something more concerning, such as pneumonia. But it would be doing everyone a disservice to prescribe an antibiotic for a viral illness. so when your health-care provider tells you to go rest and hydrate, dammit, we mean it. Park yourself in bed, and don’t go spreading your germs around. Here’s your note for work. and trust me, we all wish we could do more.

Despite its brilliant name, this column is not intended to prevent, diagnose or treat herpes. or any other diseases, for that matter.Whitny Doyle is a family nurse practitioner grad student.the opinions expressed are solely those of the author.
