For the past couple of days,I have been experiencing muscle aches all over the body and some diarrhea. I have also developed a strange rash on the left hand and around the genitals. This may be completely irrelevant to the other symptoms. I also sneeze and cough somewhat often, mostly when I'm outdoors. I feel malaise most of the time. as rare as it is,I am afraid that this might be anthrax. A few days ago (3 days ago exactly) I was at a petting zoo sort of farm and I was near sheep, goats and cattle. A day later,I started experiencing these symptoms. oh,I also have a very foul smelling stool and very frequent flatulence. I see that my symptoms also suggest celiac disease and cholera. I also have trouble sleeping and constantly feel fatigued, even right after sleeping. I have a bad memory, but I don't think that's relevant because I've had that for, well,as long as I could remember(lol). I mostly have trouble with short-term memory but can easily remember significant things that have happened in the past. I also seem to sweat in abnormally large quantities. all this also seems to suggest chronic fatigue syndrome. So,I need another opinion. what could it be? I have also considered west nile and woodhouse sakati, since there were a lot of things biting me on that farm, mostly mosquitoes,I'm not sure about ticks. Anyways,I'll be seeing a doctor soon but I just need another opinion from here for comfort. I just hope I don't have anthrax (((((…….. I hope it's just something mild…..

While I decided that this was way to long to read, This indicates to me that you have a serious problem and should see a doctor.

With This history, YOU obviously have weakened your immune system, YOU NEED TO KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING THIS?
GO TO THE DR.?

This was the reality of an outbreak of foot and mouth disease in 1924 in Merced County. the majority of the animals, which included 18,000 cattle and 14,000 sheep, goats and hogs, ended up in long trenches at the Bellevue Ranch, on what was then called G Grade. Animals were also killed and buried in the Amsterdam and Buhach areas and Snelling.

Art imitated life in the 1963 film “Hud,” when the disease forced a family of Texas ranchers to shoot their livestock in a cattle pit.

“Technology has improved to a degree,” said Annette Whiteford, the state veterinarian who works for the California Department of Food and Agriculture. “But one of the tools would still be euthanasia.”

The United States hasn’t had an outbreak of foot and mouth since 1929, when there was another outbreak in California. But as South Korea scrambles to control its worst outbreak of the disease and it appears in other countries, including Bulgaria, California animal authorities are asking the state’s ranchers and veterinarians to be vigilant.

Whiteford said foot and mouth disease is highly contagious, and although humans don’t get it, the damage to livestock is horrific.

“This is a devastating, heartbreaking disease,” Whiteford said. “If one animal in a herd has the disease, the entire herd must be killed.”

The symptoms are blisters on the tongue, inside the mouth and on the hairline of the hoof, Whiteford said. Cattle will stop eating and display excessive salivation.

When the outbreak happened in 1924 in Merced, it started with cattle at the Bellevue Ranch. A livestock dealer shipped some infected cattle and then visited local ranches.

In March, cowboys from the Bellevue Ranch rode to La Paloma Ranch on La Paloma Road, north of Merced, and brought 500 cattle down from the hills.

Some of the cattle were shipped to Los Angeles, and with them the disease spread.

Whiteford said it’s believed the outbreak in 1924 was started when garbage from another country was fed to hogs.

Foot and mouth has appeared in several countries, and Whiteford said she’s convinced it will reach the United States.

“It’s not if, it’s when,” she said.

Anyone who sees any symptoms of foot and mouth in his cattle, sheep, goats or swine should contact a veterinarian as soon as possible, Whiteford said.

“The goal is to have vigilance,” Whiteford said. “We could deny and not recognize that something could be this disease because we don’t see it every day.”

If the disease is found in California, Whiteford said the best way to stop it is to report it as early as possible.

Parents’ fears of hand, foot and mouth disease outbreaks in schools should be allayed by the festive break that will tame the disease, according to paediatrician Victor Grech.

“things will fizzle out over the holidays,” Prof. Grech said about the self-limiting disease, which has a typically mild course and stands apart from the foot-and-mouth disease of cattle, sheep and swine caused by a different virus.

Charmaine Gauci, director of disease prevention in the Health Department, said it had fewer than 10 cases reported in Gozo and Malta. This, Dr Gauci said, was normal for this time of year and the situation was expected to improve with the holidays, when children were away from school thus limiting the extent of spread of the infection.

Prof. Grech said, although paediatricians had seen children with the disease, this was “normal” and he wanted to alleviate parents’ concerns about the infection.

HFMD is a very contagious viral disease that affects small children and infants. Contrary to its potency to spread, it was not a serious disease and nearly all patients recovered within a week without medical intervention, Prof. Grech emphasised.

It usually caused small epidemics in nursery schools and kindergartens, usually in the summer and autumn months, he said.

Very occasionally, the disease could go unnoticed, with infected people only being carriers of the infection, he explained. Usually, HFMD began with fever, loss of appetite, feeling generally unwell and a sore throat. Diarrhoea and vomiting could also occasionally accompany such symptoms. some 48 hours later, painful ulcers developed, starting as red spots then blistering and ulcerating on the tongue, gums and inside of the cheeks. a non-itchy rash, whose red spots could sometimes blister, developed on the palms of the hands, soles of the feet and even on the buttocks, Prof. Grech explained.

Uncommonly, finger and toe nails could be lost in children within a month of contracting the disease.

Very rarely, viral meningitis could occur with HFMD, which was usually mild and did not need specific treatment. even more rarely, a polio-like paralysis or encephalitis could occur, the latter of which could be fatal, Prof. Grech said.

Infection spread from person to person through direct contact with the live virus found in nose and throat secretions, saliva, blister fluid and stools of infectious individuals.

People were most contagious in the first week of the illness and could remain carriers for several weeks after all symptoms had subsided, he said, pointing out that pet to person spread was not possible.

Dr Gauci stressed the importance of proper hygiene such as hand washing and avoiding close contact with infected individuals. She emphasised the importance of not attending school while still sick.
