OAK Lodge residential care home decided to reach out into the community and offer a service to carers who deal with loved ones with any kind of memory loss dementia.

They decided to offer a place to meet socially on a monthly basis and the Forget Me not Club was suggested by Acorn Unit manager Carol Packer and members of staff who realised there was a real need for more education for carers in this  situation and a place they could go for a coffee and a chat with others facing the same difficulties.

The initial meeting was set up on Frida July 8th, to hold an open forum and gauge opinion from the carers as to what format they required and when the club would be best held.

Some of the group pointed out that there was a carers group in Chard already meeting every second Monday but that unlike Forget Me not it was for any type of care, not specific to memory loss issues as suggested for the Oak Lodge one.

Many felt they needed more information as to what to expect in the future and symptoms to watch out for so it was agreed that professional support in the form of talks and information would be appreciated. Equally the need for getting together with people in the same boat was considered just as useful. A representative from the Alzheimer’s Society was present and the question was raised as to whether the group could meet to coincide with the memory cafe in the Guildhall or the Singing for the Brain sessions in Ilminster, where they could leave their  loved one (subject to their level of dependence)  while they came to the Forget Me not Club. Often the biggest issues for carers was whether they would be able to come away alone for those vital few hours of relief while someone else watched over their loved one.

Fritha Irwin, dementia lead for Majestica who run Oak Lodge, took on board all the suggestions of the carers and agreed that providing educational  sessions I addition to the space for a social meeting  was vital.  the club is open to all comers who are caring for someone with memory loss at any level. for more information please call Oak Lodge 01460 67258.

I don't know why I have been getting indigestion for 2 weeks, I've never had it before. I have been taking a antacid containing calcium carbonate, it seems to relieve symptoms for a few hours then it comes back. what could I do to fix this problem? And what could be causing it?

you need to make an appt with our doctor. you could try PECID COMPLETE. its over the counter and it works. BUT,having constant indigestion is bad for you so you need to go to the doctor.

i agree; often indigestion can actually be another source of chest pain, which is why it's important to see a doctor. one of the more common causes is gastro-esophageal reflux disease; not sure about the treatment though.

For "at-home" remedies these are things you should try…Change what you eat and drink..no "acidy" foods, no sodas/pops/cokes. no coffee or no chocolate…Anything spicy [tomato's, pickles] or greasy fried foods or potato chips. if you smoke, that contributes too..also try walking for exercise [if you can]
For O.T.C. medicines to help check out Gaviscon it's really good, and Prilosec is now O.T.C. Sometimes if you have to take daily medicine, this can aid in having indigestion..

Pay attention to what "triggers" the indigestion and avoid it..once you get your stomach back "right" then you may be able to eat of those foods again, just in moderation…

You should, check with your doctor to make sure to don't have stomach ulcers and see what is the best course of treatment you need to help with this.. Some of the over the counter medicines can not be mixed with some prescription medicines, so check with your doctor first…..Best wishes…:)

Talk to your doctor about getting on some type of PPI – Proton Pump Inhibitor. These are drugs such as Nexium, Prevacid, Aciphex and Prilosec.

The reason your antacid is not working is because it is not getting to the source of the problem. GERD, acid reflux happen when your stomach is producing too many acids and this is when a PPI comes into play to bring the level down.

If you don't have insurance your best option would be to buy Prilosec OTC, which will cost about $24 depending where you go for 28 pills. I was taking this for a while and it was just as effective as the RX. However if you do have insurance the co-pay for Omeprazole is only $5.

Can you drink contaminated coffee and 3 hours later start to get cramps?

For years now, I've had many of the symptoms associated with an enlarged prostate. Difficulty starting, weak stream, getting up at night, and going frequently. I haven't experienced any pain associated with this. I recently had a prostate exam and also the blood test for prostate cancer, both of which were negative. My doctor gave me a prescription to knock out any possible bladder infection, but that didn't change anything. Is there any other condition that could cause these symptoms?

I'm a fit 33 year old, no immediate family history of prostate cancer. I drink about 16 oz of coffee in the morning, and then plenty of tea and water throughout the day. I excercise 5 evenings a week, and drink a moderate amount of water afterwards. I think this may explain the frequency but don't know about other symptoms.

without a doubt the most creepy question posted on here.

it would require isolating the head via securing it to something that would be the actual item that would be shaken and that would be enough to cause brain damage without causing neck injury.

Here's an idea. Get your self a life like baby doll. ask a high school what type they use for their preventitve programs.
Shake that baby and see what happens…

The likelihood that those other symptoms you mentioned of causing the brain to separate from the neck stem is HIGHLY unlikely.
Everyone knows the dangers of extracaricular activities associated with pregnancy.
Maybe you should do a little more research

If the people here answering this post with such absurd responses had actually read the whole post and checked out the website mentioned, they would have gotten the point–that recent science has pretty much proven that it isn't possible for a person to shake a baby hard enough to cause the injuries associated with shaken babies, without doing serious damage to the neck and spine first. So what does this mean? maybe that most of these cases weren't caused by shaking, but by something else, and there is some pretty compelling information provided by high level scientists about what that cause might be. if so, there are a lot of innocent people in prison and a lot of guilty people who continue to run free and profit from certain dangerous practices that may be at fault. it helps when people actually do a little reading outside of pharma-sponsored literature instead of just spouting off opinions that may not have any basis in fact or science.

As far as "the brain separating from the neck stem" as suggested by one poster, that is not listed as a sign found in shaken baby cases that I can see. You appear to be confusing that with something else or making it up as you go.
