Its quite difficult as it is a big time chronic disease. but a good thing about it is that natural alternatives , which come without the side effects of conventional medications, are extremely effective in controlling symptoms.

Conventional Western medicine generally treats asthma with a combination of preventative and quick-relief medications. These may include the frequent use of inhalers, anti-inflammatory medication, bronchodilators, corticosteroids, and anti-allergy medications.

While conventional medical treatment may sometimes be necessary (especially quick relief medications), many of them come with a number of potentially dangerous side effects as well as negative effects on immune system functioning. Prolonged use of these medications have the potential to lower immune system health, resulting in increased asthma attacks, reduced resistance to allergens, while also leaving the body more vulnerable to other illnesses.

There are a number of highly effective herbal and homeopathic remedies that may be used for the successful treatment of asthma and other respiratory conditions. Depending on the severity of the asthma, natural remedies can either reduce or completely eliminate the need for the synthetic drugs and are often used in conjunction with conventional medications as a part of a holistic treatment plan.

Herbal ingredients such as Matricaria recutita and Astralagus are known for their antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties, while homeopathic ingredients such as Mag. Phos. and Nat. Sulph are successful at easing chest and throat constriction and soothing mucous membranes while reducing the presence of phlegm in the chest. Used regularly, natural remedies can help improve respiratory health, reduce the incidence and severity of asthma attacks while strengthening the immune system.

Ulcerative colitis medications are not considered a cure for the condition itself. their major benefit is in reducing the discomfort that is typically caused by ulcerative colitis symptoms. One of the other primary reasons for using ulcerative colitis medications is to reach a stage of remission and hold it.

The following medications are used most frequently by medical professionals for ulcerative colitis treatment.

Sulfasalazine – This is a medication that treats ulcerative colitis by combining sulfapyridine and 5-aminosalicyclic acid, or 5-ASA The function of sulfapyridine is to transport 5-ASA to the intestines. The problem with sulfapyridine is a range of possible side effects, including nausea, vomiting, heartburn, diarrhea, and headache.

Aminosalicylates – some 5-ASA is also part of this drug, but there’s no sulfapyridine. So it’s often used by people who experience side effects when they take sulfapyridine. Aminosalicylates derive from salicylic acid, and appear to be a form of antioxidant. They can be taken in a number of different ways, depending on the location of the colitis: by enema, suppositiories, or orally. Many healthcare providers prefer to use aminosalicylates first when they’re treating ulcerative colitis. They can also be useful for treatment when relapses happen.

Corticosteroids – these medications for ulcerative colitis include prednisone, methylprednisone, and hydrocortisone. They’re particularly effective in reducing inflammation. Patients with moderate to severe cases of ulcerative colitis tend to benefit most from corticosteroid treatment. Delivery methods include enema, suppository, or a pill taken orally. They can also be administered intravenously.. Your health care provider will choose the appropriate delivery method based on the location of the inflammation in your colon. Corticosteroids are better when used in the short term. But they have been known to cause side effects in the long term, including weight gain, risk of infection. mood swings, hypertension, facial hair, diabetes, bone mass loss, and acne.

Immunomodulators – Immunomodulators limit swelling and inflammation by working with the human immune system. Immunomodulators are usually recommended when other methods haven’t worked, or when the patient has become dependent of corticosteroids. They’re the favored choice of many patients because they can be taken by mouth. But immunomodulators also have several downsides. first, it can take months before the full benefit is realized (sometimes as many as six). There can also be complications and side effects, including pancreatitis, hepatitis, a low white blood cell count, and an increased risk of infection.

Cyclosporine a – This treatment is most appropriate for patients whose ulcerative colitis is active and severe, and when intravenous drugs are ineffective. it is often used in combination with 6-MP or azathioprine. at the same time cyclosporine a treatment is being administered, the doctor may also prescribe other medications to help the patient cope with diarrhea, infection and other discomfort.

As was mentioned before, no permanent cure for ulcerative colitis has been found. However, medications for ulcerative colitis can help prevent flare ups and keep down inflammation. Plus, they can reduce or delay the need for surgery. Your doctor will evaluate a number of factors in deciding on the appropriate ulcerative colitis medication for you. Among these factors are * how much discomfort your symptoms are causing * any possible complications* side effects and how they may impact your situation* other treatments or medications you have tried in the past every patient responds to ulcerative colitis in their own way. It’s not the same for everyone. Therefore, you and your doctor may have to try several possibilities before the right treatment – or combination of treatments – becomes apparent.

Crohn’s disease is an autoimmune disorder. the disease is characterized by periods of flare-ups, interspersed with periods of remissions. Crohn’s disease flare-ups might occur as a side effect of intake of certain food substances.

This is an extremely painful phase in the life of a Crohn’s disease patient. Inflammation of the intestines causes abdominal pain, stomach cramps, diarrhea and rectal bleeding. it might damage the intestines and impair nutrient absorption.

Unfortunately, Crohn’s disease could not be cured. Medications are prescribed to keep the symptoms of the disease under control. Standard drugs used for treating this disease include corticosteroids. These medications prevent the flare-ups by suppressing the entire immune system, which often causes adverse side effects.

Biologics for treating Crohn’s disease

To avoid the side effects of conventional immune suppressing drugs, health experts often recommend biologics for treating Crohn’s disease. Biologics, also known as biologic response modifiers, have been developed in recent years for treating the symptoms of Crohn’s disease.

These are genetically engineered therapies developed from living organisms. instead of suppressing the entire immune system, biologics target specific pro-inflammatory agents that trigger inflammation of the intestines.

Currently four types of biologics are used for treating Crohn’s disease. Biologics certolizumab, adalimumab and infliximab treat the intestinal inflammation by obstructing the function of a pro-inflammatory protein associated with inflammation of the digestion tract. another biologic, known as natalizumab, treats Crohn’s disease by preventing functions of certain white blood cells linked to inflammation.

Biologics are administered through injections. they are usually recommended for people suffering from moderate to severe Crohn’s disease. Doctors prescribe biologics only when the conventional drugs fail to prevent the flare-ups.

Side effects of biologics

Although biologics do not suppress the entire immune system, they significantly impair the functions of white blood cells that fight infections. Biologics might make people with Crohn’s disease susceptible to infections.

In rare cases, they can cause serious complications, which require hospitalization. Biolgics are not recommended for tuberculosis, multiple sclerosis and heart failure patients.

Rarely, biologics that inhibit functions of pro-inflammatory proteins cause lymphoma, a cancer of the lymph system. after receiving biologics, headache, nausea, rash and flu-like symptoms might develop.
