Mitchell Mustain was booked by the Los Angeles Police Department on Tuesday evening. Bail was set at $30,000.

Charges will not be filed against former University of Southern California quarterback Mitch Mustain, who was arrested Tuesday evening on charges of selling prescription drugs online. Here’s more from the Los Angeles Times on Mustain, a Springdale native:

Mustain, 22, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of a felony for allegedly selling Adderall, an amphetamine, to an undercover officer. But county prosecutors said they would not move forward with a felony prosecution because the substance sold to the undercover officer was “lisdexamfetamine dimesylate,” which is not listed as a controlled substance. In the filing declination, prosecutors noted Mustain passed off the substance he was selling as a controlled substance, which could potentially result in a felony filing, but given that he had no criminal record, they opted to send it to the city attorney, who will decide whether to file a misdemeanor charge. “Given that Mustain has no record and that this is his first contact with law enforcement, it is appropriate that it be referred to the city attorney’s office for misdemeanor consideration,” officials wrote. the arrest came as the result of a sting operation, but police did not elaborate on details of the case. Mustain did not return phone or text messages seeking comment.

Mustain was a part of Springdale’s 2005 state championship led by current Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn. Mustain played at Arkansas for a season before transferring to USC. He has mostly played in a back-up role for the Trojans and was expected to participate in the 2011 NFL Draft.

ESPN confirms with an L.A.P.D. spokesperson that it was the Springdale native who was arrested, matching the description of the man listed on the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department website. Charges for the arrest are not listed on the site. Bail was set at $30,000. The Los Angeles Times reports that Mustain is free on bail. the Associated Press has yet to confirm his release.

Roger Lodge first reported on the arrest on KLAA-AM 830. Lodge told listeners on his radio show, “The SportsLODGE”, that Mustain tried to sell the prescription drug Adderall to an undercover police officer through an ad on Craigslist.com. Adderall is an amphetamine frequently used in adult patients to control symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

As of 4 p.m. Wednesday, there were four listings on Craigslist’s Los Angeles page with the word “Adderall” used in its text. two of the classified listings appeared to be from sellers with the other two people wanting to buy the drug. according to the posts, Adderall sells for between $10-15 per capsule, depending on the number of milligrams. the ads can be posted anonymously.

There were no results found in a search for “Adderall” in the Arkansas listings.
