My son was diagnosed with a torn labrum and other significant damage to his shoulder due to a dislocation playing football. he is in no pain, has full range of motion, and still has all his strength in his arm and shoulder. The doctor is recommending surgery but he has no symptoms. Is this unusual or has anyone had this happen to them.

I tore my labrum my freshman year of high school while weightilifting. I had no pain or anything, just heard an unusual pop. I waited about a year and a half before I went to the doctor and that's when he said it was torn and recommended surgery right away. I decided not to have surgery because I wanted to continue throwing shot put and discus so I waited until I graduated. I never really had any pain before the surgery, but now after the surgery it pops, catches, and clicks a lot, so I probably shouldn't have had the surgery, cause it's worse now, I think. Personally i don't think I would worry about it until it begins to cause problems for him. Hope this helps some.

Five days ago I had a glass threw at me and it smashed on my elbow. I couldn't stop screaming because of the pain and the shock from all the blood. I was taken to the emergency room for stitches about 1-2 hours later, they gave me a tetanus shot. since then I have not been able to open my jaw fully. every now and then it will open fully but as soon as I close it it is locked in place, if you know what I mean. They say you can get lockjaw (a symptom of tetanus) from deep cuts which causes bacteria to go on your nerves of your jaw. Could it be possible I got this between the time of the cut and the tetanus shot, or is it simply from the trauma of it all. how do I cure this? Its so uncomfortable, I can't even yawn properly.

it sounds lik TMJ a dislocation of the bones in the hinge of your jaw
