What are the symptoms? what should someone do if they have schizophrenia?

Its nice someone listed every symptoms known to man. The truth is some only exhibit a few of them. All individuals are different and symptoms present differently. To look at a list of symptoms is worthless unless you are a professional. Meet with a therapist in your area. Realize some people experience symptoms similiar to schizophrenia if they are using drugs, under severe distress, have a brain injury or have mood instability. Symptoms vary depending on multiple of factors and the individual. once again meet with a therapist if you don't have insurance then look up a mental health clinic in your area.

Schizophrenia is when you hear voices in your head. Usually you will talk with them and there have been cases were people have done something the voices told them to. I think you should talk to your doctor if you have schizophrenia.

MALVERN, PA ? February 10, 2011 ? Promedior, Inc., a clinical stage biotechnology company developing novel therapies to treat fibrotic and inflammatory diseases, announced today the publication of collaborative research in the International Journal of Biochemistry and Cell Biology entitled, “TGF-beta driven lung fibrosis is macrophage dependent and blocked by Serum amyloid P.” The research showed that human Pentraxin-2 (PTX-2), also called human Serum amyloid P (SAP), potently inhibits all undesirable pro-fibrotic pathologies driven by TGFβ1 and represents a novel therapeutic approach for the treatment of diseases that involve lung fibrosis, including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). this research validates that PTX-2/SAP can have therapeutic effects even in conditions driven by TGFβ1 growth factor, and builds on the body of research showing the unique role of PTX-2/SAP in activating the body’s natural ability to resolve tissue damage in disease processes that cause fibrosis and inflammation.

In this study, researchers examined the effects of PTX-2/SAP in the lung specific TGFβ1 transgenic mouse model, since many of the pathogenic mechanisms observed in lung fibrosis can be stimulated by the growth factor TGFβ1. Highlights of the results from this study validating the potential therapeutic effects of PTX-2/SAP in pulmonary fibrosis included:

• PTX-2/SAP inhibited all of the pathologies driven by TGFβ1 including apoptosis, airway inflammation, pulmonary fibrocyte and M2 macrophage accumulation and collagen deposition, without affecting the levels of TGFβ1 in the lung;

• An abbreviated therapeutic dose schedule was equally efficacious and demonstrated a sustained durability of effect following cessation of drug dosing, suggesting that intermittent dosing may be feasible in human patients;

• PTX-2/SAP levels were reduced in the serum of IPF patients when compared to closely matched healthy control subjects and the levels of SAP in IPF patient serum directly correlated with lung function;

• PTX-2/SAP directly inhibited M2 macrophage differentiation of monocytes obtained from IPF patients, suggesting that IPF patient monocytes would be responsive to PTX-2 therapy.

The findings regarding the effects of PTX-2/SAP in the lung specific TGFβ1 transgenic mouse model expand on previous preclinical studies, in which Promedior investigators determined that PTX-2/SAP potently inhibited lung fibrosis in both acute bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis models and chronic asthma models through an inhibition of pulmonary fibrocyte and pro-fibrotic (M2) macrophage activation and accumulation, associated with increased macrophage production of the regulatory cytokine IL-10.

“Our research clearly shows the beneficial anti-fibrotic effects of Pentraxin-2 in TGFβ1-induced lung disease,” said lead author Erica L. Herzog, M.D., Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Medicine (Pulmonary), Yale School of Medicine. “These findings highlight the potential of Pentraxin-2 to be a potent and durable inhibitor at a pivotal point in the disease pathway of progressive pulmonary fibrotic diseases.”

Based on this research and other clinical and preclinical studies, Promedior is developing a pipeline of drugs based upon recombinant forms of PTX-2/SAP for the treatment and prevention of fibrotic and inflammatory diseases. The company is conducting human clinical studies to evaluate Pentraxin-2 therapeutics for a number of fibrotic diseases, including IPF and post-surgical scarring in glaucoma patients.

“These new findings further support our confidence in Pentraxin-2 as a novel therapeutic for many severe and chronic inflammatory and fibrotic diseases, including IPF,” said Mark L. Lupher, Jr., Ph.D., Chief Scientific Officer, Promedior. “By showing that PTX-2/SAP has dominant therapeutic effects even downstream of TGFβ1 pathways through the ability to inhibit pathologic fibrocytes and macrophages and promote regulatory macrophage function, these results further confirm that Pentraxin-2 regulates fundamental mechanisms of the innate immune system, opening an exciting new approach to treat inflammatory and fibrotic diseases.”

Even as snow socked Washington, the Food and Drug Administration managed to get a letter to GlaxoSmithKline rejecting the company’s proposal to sell the pill Avodart as a way to reduce the risk of prostate cancer.

The medicine, known generically as dutasteride, is prescribed to ease the symptoms and reduce the need to operate on enlarged prostates. Glaxo has been looking to get the drug approved for the prevention of prostate cancer in men with high PSAs and who’ve had a biopsy for prostate cancer that didn’t find any.

Back in December, a panel of experts advising the FDA about the proposal voted it down 14-2 because the benefit of reducing some cancers didn’t outweigh the risks that some aggressive cancers would go unnoticed.

FDA said at the meeting that the company’s data showed 60 men would need to be treated with Avodart for four years to prevent a single “clinically meaningful” case of prostate cancer, the Wall Street Journal reported at the time. Among the same men over the same period, about 1 in 200 treated with Avodart would develop an aggressive type of prostate cancer.

In an e-mail, a Glaxo spokesman said the company is still reviewing the letter, which it received around 7 p.m. Wednesday. (That’s when parts of suburban Washington near FDA headquarters were hit with thundersnow.) Glaxo expects to talk it over with the agency, but the company hasn’t made a decision about whether to continue work on approval.

Compared to people who didn’t have heavy drinkers in their lives, 3,000 new Zealanders who did had lower scores on standard measures of general health.

Chronic pain, anxiety and depression symptoms, and overall satisfaction with life were found with those with a family member, friend or colleague who drank heavily, Reuters Health reported.

The findings, reported in the journal Addiction, did not prove that being around a heavy drinker was the root of study participants’ problems. The average effect was similar to what has been seen in studies of people caring for someone with a disability, according to lead researcher Dr. Sally Casswell, of Massey University in Auckland, new Zealand.

Casswell told Reuters Health by e-mail, the study is just “a snapshot at one point in time, so… some other explanation is possible. It’s possible,” she notes,” that people with poorer well-being are more likely to attract heavy drinkers into their lives, for example.”

A number of factors could explain why knowing a heavy drinker was linked to poorer well-being, Casswell continued. People who know heavy drinkers might, for example, drink heavily themselves, or tend to be less-educated or have lower incomes. none of those theories however explained the researchers’ findings.

Subjects who actually lived with a heavy drinker had lower scores on measures of general health and personal well-being. “Personal well-being” was applied to people’s satisfaction with their relationships, work, health and what they were achieving in life.

Although “heavy drinking” was not defined; it was up to participants to decide if someone in their life met that description. The current study consisted of 3,068 12- to 80-year-olds who were asked whether they had any heavy drinkers in their life.

About one in three said they had at least one heavy drinker in their life in the past year. Most often being a friend, family member or partner, although in some cases it was someone at work. However people with even relatively minor exposure to heavy drinkers — like those with a co-worker or a more-distant relative who drank — also reported lower satisfaction with life compared with people who claimed no heavy drinkers in their life.

Casswell suggested the findings highlight a broad impact heavy drinking can have, and this potential “harm to others” should be considered in policy debates aimed at curbing heavy drinking, she tells Reuters Health.

TORONTO, Ont., January 7, 2011 ? People suffering from fatty liver disease may be three times more likely to suffer a stroke than individuals without fatty liver, according to a study by researchers at St. Michael’s Hospital and the London Health Sciences Centre. the study is the first to find a link between nonalcoholic fatty liver disease ? a disease characterized by the accumulation of fat in the liver in non drinkers ? and stroke.

In a research letter to the editor in the journal Epidemiology released Thursday, Drs. Joel Ray, Ivan Ying and colleagues explain they found high levels of enzymes known to be markers of liver disease in adults who had an acute stroke. Between 2005 and 2009, they reviewed 103 consecutive adults who had an MRI-proven acute stroke between 2005 and 2009 and compared them to 200 adults with suspected acute stroke, but whose MRI was normal, thereby ruling out acute stroke.

“The risk of stroke in relation to fatty liver disease has never been tested,” Dr. Ray says. “Our study shows a strong link between the two and the possibility in future that currently available blood liver enzyme tests, or novel markers of fatty liver, may be used to predict the risk of stroke and help us better care for and treat at risk patients.”

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is a common condition that often has no symptoms or complications. Risk factors include obesity, high cholesterol, diabetes and, especially, insulin resistance.

While the findings are promising, additional research is needed to validate the study’s findings, Dr. Ray said.

An investigation has found that celiac disease and Crohn’s disease, both inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, share at least four genetic risk loci. together, researchers from the University of Groningen, the Netherlands; the Broad Institute, USA; the Universit? de Montr?al and Montreal Heart Institute in Canada performed a combined meta-analysis of genome-wide data for celiac disease and Crohn’s disease. This meta-analysis, published in the open-access journal PLoS Genetics on January 27, has identified two new shared risk loci and two shared risk loci that had previously been independently identified for each disease.

The pathogenesis of both celiac disease and Crohn’s disease is only partly understood, although it is known that they are affected by both genetic and environmental risk factors. at least one in every hundred individuals in the Western world develop celiac disease; Crohn’s disease is much less common but can be accompanied by more severe symptoms as it can affect the whole gastrointestinal tract. Celiac patients develop an inflammation of the small bowel in reaction to gluten, whereas there is no specific known autoantigen for Crohn’s disease. however, the primary cause of Crohn’s disease is thought to be a dysregulated immune response to gut bacteria. In order to gain a better understanding of the pathogenesis and to aid in developing therapies against these disorders, knowledge of the genetic background of the diseases is vital.

As it has previously been shown that celiac patients are at a higher risk of developing Crohn’s disease than non-sufferers, it had been thought that the two illnesses would share genetic risk loci. This study combined the results from the genetic investigations into both diseases to show that part of the genetic background of Crohn’s disease and celiac disease is shared, which confirms a common pathogenesis for these disorders. Although additional studies will be necessary to understand the mechanisms by which these variants influence both Crohn’s disease and celiac, the current study provides a proof of principle that risk factors shared across related diseases can be identified by directly combining genetic data from clinically distinct diseases.

What I mean is, do you ONLY have the symptoms of diabetes (peeing often, drinking often etc.) if you have high blood sugar?

High blood sugar or hyperglycemia and low blood sugar or hypoglycemia have practically the same effects when they are very high or very low. these are cold sweat, and if not prevented on time, dizziness and then blackout. Both are dangerous situations. now, with regards your question, the symptoms that you mentioned (peeing often, drinking often, etc.) are indicative of high blood sugar but are not exclusive as low sugar could give conflicting results.

Well there is hypoglycemia, which could be a type of diabetes, which is low blood sugar instead of high. so you could have the symptoms of diabetes if you have low blood sugar too.
