Update: I have recently found, purchased and wrote up reviews on two TMJ Exercise programs. they are similar TMJ Exercises that my TMJ Physical Therapist uses to treat my TMJ patients. Ok, TMJ cures are possible, but we need to understand that the most common cause of TMD is “Stress”. So, what is Stress? that is anything and everything in our lives that it brings. it is good stress or bad stress. So, to have TMJ cures, we need to reduce and or eliminate the amount of stress in our lives, and we’ll be less likely to have TMJ issues.

When stress comes along that is a bit more than what we’re accustomed to, then the clenching is more severe, and tension builds up in our facial, jaw muscles and Viola…we have TMD issues.

Although, the main cause of TMJ maybe stress, there are other factors that cause TMJ headaches, TMJ symptoms, Tinitus, lock jaw, and jaw pain. If the cause of TMJ is primarily a bad bite, then the bite can be fixed through TMJ Therapy, splint therapy and bite correction. Now, those are the TMJ cures on the Dental side of correcting TMJ issues.

But, people don’t have to have bite corrections to relieve their pain and discomforts. Physical therapy can eliminate pain, and Physical therapists and Chiropractors know how to to that. So, when appropriate, I will refer patients to “eliminate” their pain to these two clinicians.

The Dental appliance is an excellent way to eliminate pain because it is immediate, and can be easily done everyday when ever you need some relief of pains. Home exercises can be done at home, but generally it takes several weeks or months to eliminate the pain. So, for quick relief, we recommend the Dental appliance.

Now, some will argue if the Dental appliance is really the best therapy for the TMJ patient. And I agree that those people have validity. let me explain…

If a man is hungry and he asks for food and you give him a fish to eat, he is full for a few hours. If you teach the man “how to fish”, he can feed himself daily for the rest of his life. that analogy has some validity to it.

See, a dental appliance “relieves” TMJ pain when the cause of the pain is Stress, it does not “cure” TMJ or the cause of the pain. The stress or bad bite causes muscle activity, and that is the REAL cause of the pain.

So, a TMJ Dentist can eliminate Pain caused by Stress, but it may be better to help the TMJ sufferer with some sort of counseling to help the individual to cope, reduce, and steer clear of stressful factors in his/her life to help reduce the pain in their lives. but then again, that takes several weeks and months to eliminate the pain, so I go with the Dental appliance because people want pain relief now.

So TMJ cures are possible, but you need to find out the REAL cause of the Pain.
