I have believed my child to be dyslexic for around 4 years,he is now 10.he had an assessment recently and told me he used overlay sheets that made the reading so much easier.he also told me that letters like e,a,o,p etc were blacked out in the white areas of the letter.I have never heard of anything like this before and wondered if anyone knows if it is connected to dyslexia.

Can only say that I did a year at college in my 50s. most fellow students were aboout my age, and a lot of them had been dismissed as backward at school, and condemned to really boring jobs, because of undiagnosed dyslexia, etc.
I'm glad to hear that whatever problem your son's got, it's being addressed, will quite likely be overcome at this stage, and – most importantly – his self-confidence won't be damaged by being called lazy or thick!

dyslexia is usually mixing up d's and b's writing things backwards and find things harder to learn , that's what my friend with dylexia does , only noticed when she went college
when she wrote essays .
you need to bring him to a therapist (speech/learning) and see if it is that otherwise he could be colour blind i know
an adult with this and different things are harder to read depending on the colour of the page etc and quite a few people have it but its easy to live with it when its picked up at an early stage

Its possible. what did the guy that do the assessment say ? I didn't get assessed till i was 14 was a bit difficult then.. Look for ADDHD too AD 70% of dyslexics have it as well

Don't you think it's a buit cruel that "dyslexia" is so hard to spell?
