herpes symptoms are only noticeable when outbreaks occur. Otherwise, the virus lies in latency in the neck or lower spine, oftentimes in no way causing any symptoms at all.
The place of the symptoms of herpes depends on the type of the virus – oral herpes symptoms appear in and around the mouth location, and the genital range appear in and around the genital and anal locations of the physique.

The severity of the outbreaks vary from case to case and can range from mild tingling and redness to clusters of painful blisters on the skin. This can be mistaken for other skin disorders, so it is critical that those concerned about the origin of sores in the oral or genital locations be tested for the herpes virus.

Early symptoms of herpes can mimic those of the flu as the physique gears up for fighting a flare-up of the illness. these can involve fever and headache, and depression or irritability, and inflammation of the lymph nodes, particularly those situated close to the webpage of the pending outbreak.

An oral herpes blister is commonly referred to as a cold sore. the outbreak of such a sore begins with a tingling and mile redness of the skin that then develops into a blister that can be rather big and painful. these blisters are commonly situated quite near the lips of the infected person, but herpes symptoms can also be present inside the mouth, particularly on the tongue.

Herpes-related sores do not look like pimples, but rather blisters that contain fluid. throughout the cycle of herpes symptoms, these blisters will burst and dry up as the infection comes to a close. It is crucial to note that the fluid contained in the sores is highly contagious, and when it is present in and about the sore, the infected person is most probably to transmit the illness.

Genital symptoms of herpes vary, and even though some complications that arise can be really uncomfortable, the majority of men and women infected with the virus that causes genital herpes have no notion they are infected and will unknowingly spread the highly contagious virus to other people.
The full cycle of herpes symptoms takes between two and four weeks to complete. The effects are worst for most men and women in the course of the 1st outbreak, which generally happens within a couple of weeks of the initial transmission of the disease.
I haven’t written in awhile but I wanted to update you all on how I’m doing on the SCD!

So, I have just past the 8 month mark on SCD! I am so happy and proud of myself that I have made it this far. the journey to where I am now hasn’t been fun or easy, but I am happy to report that for the past 3 months I have NO symptoms. I experienced a pretty bad flare when I got back from South Africa in November. it lasted about 3 weeks. during those 3 weeks, I was pretty depressed, I just wanted to get better. I must note that the flare wasn’t as bad as it was pre-SCD. I went back to SCD basics (easy to digest foods and soup) and in 3 weeks I was back to normal! during that flare I also started acupunture twice a week. I really feel that this helped me as well.

I went to Jamaica at the end of December after the flare was over. it was pretty easy staying on the diet while I was there, I ate alot of FRUITS AND VEGGIES! I didn’t drink at all which was the most difficult thing for me. but I still managed to have a great time and feel great as well!

Its been 3 months since have seen blood and mucus! I am pretty regular going about 2-3 times a day mostly all solid! I couldn’t be happier. thoughts of UC no longer control my life. I feel free and in control.

With regards to missing food, obviously its hard sometimes when you crave something that you cant have. but I always remind myself that no food is worth the pain in the ass (literally) of Ulcerative Colitis.

Yesterday I was sooo happy. my mom made me butternut squash fries and chicken wings. I actually felt normal and enjoyed every bite of my dinner!

I know alot of you out there are struggling with UC. I read the stories all the time and feel sad because I know how bad it can be. I wish everyone found success using the SCD but I know that’s not the case.

Currently I am still on Salofalk tablets. I also take a SCD probiotic everyday and go to acupuncture once a week. I have a followup appointment with my GI next week. I am curious to see what he will say about my improvement.

I am a lil worried that I will see the 9 month flare that Elaine talks about in BTVC. now that I look back on it, I did have a mini flare at 3 months and another one at 5-6 months like she predicts. I am hoping that I skip the 9 month one!

I also think alot about the future and how long I will stay on SCD. since it has worked so well with me I sometimes feel that I want to stay on it forever! I am only 25, so that is a LONG time! I know for sure that I will not go back to the way I was eating before!

I wish everyone happiness and health. They are often overlooked because symptoms tend to flare during the hormonal decline at the end of the cycle. some doctors have a tendency to look on this as nothing more than the “female problems” that accompany the menstrual cycle. this effect is particularly pronounced in the case where the woman already experiences problems associated with PMS.

Sexual Discrimination and Lyme Disease

Much as we might like to think otherwise, sexual discrimination is still all around us, even at the doctor’s office. Lyme disease is often underdiagnosed in women because not everyone who contracts it develops the familiar “bull’s eye” lesion, which has long been associated as the main identifying factor of lyme disease. Much of the time, the patient will not even realize that a tick bite has even occurred, making diagnosis that much more difficult.

When hormonal levels drop at the end of the menstrual cycle, the symptoms of lyme disease in women become that much more pronounced. While many doctors who are very familiar with the appearance of lyme disease symptoms and how they affect women will be able to discern whether or not the discomfort and other symptoms are related to lyme disease, many doctors are unable to do this and simply point the finger at “female problems.”

Lyme Disease and Pregnancy

The first choice antibiotic in the treatment of lyme disease is doxycycline because of its high level of effectiveness in this case. Since it is also harmful to the fetus, it is not administered in the case where the patient is pregnant. instead, if the disease is caught early enough, erythromycin will be administered because even though it is not as effective, it has the benefit of not being harmful to the fetus. Antibiotics are given orally in the case of early detection, as it is believed that lyme disease does not cross the placental barrier, but some doctors prefer to give antibiotics intravenously as an added precaution.

If the lyme disease has progressed to the later stages before a diagnosis has been made, the treatment regimen is going to be somewhat different. Rather than simple taking the oral antibiotic and possibly an IV antibiotic, late stage lyme disease treatment in pregnant women will almost always rely on intravenous injections of antibiotics. this is done to provide a more intense treatment in order to help protect the fetus.

Howdy folks,

So, I think I’ve had UC since I was about 11 or 12 (I’m 33 now). After many attempts, a doc finally took it seriously and so was diagnosed with either UC or Crohn’s in 2007 – doc didn’t think it was too important which is was which I found odd at the time. he recommended steroids and Asacol which I didn’t take – figured I had gotten along just fine without them until then. Then last year while in Switzerland on holiday, I had a pretty bad flare which wound me up in hospital. had another scope – still didn’t know if UC or Crohn’s. Started Prednisone and Asacol – tapered the Pred after 3 months and stayed on Asacol – 4.8mg/day which I eventually tapered off to 3.2mg which is the only thing I’m on at the moment. Was fine for almost a year. Went into my consultant on 8th Dec – took bloods – nothing showed up. only 2 days later, another flare started… isn’t it odd that nothing showed up in my bloods from 2 days previous??? Anyhow, could only get an appointment for some weeks later so I went in a couple of days ago – they weren’t suprised that nothing showed in my blood tests… and when I pressed them asking which form of IBD I have, they didn’t seem too pushed. Was really blasé about the whole thing… that it “didn’t matter really if it was UC or Crohn’s” – well, it matters to me. They’re sending me in for another colonoscopy on Monday (in 2 da ys) to investigate further, but are talking about putting me back on Pred, adding Asathioprine (Imuran) – really not up for that! I’ve been on the SCD for last 2 weeks – didn’t do the starter diet though as it seemed really challenging…

I guess I’m just really frustrated at the moment… I find it strange that the consultants aren’t too interested in whether it’s UC or Crohn’s… what do you think? also, only 2 days after a flare started, shouldn’t some kind of inflammatory markers have showed up in my bloods???

I really don’t want to go back on steroids, and really really really don’t want to start Imuran… just don’t really know what to do.

I’m frustrated that doc’s just want to suppress the condition and not figure out why this is happening… it’s just all drugs, drugs and more drugs. I’m not a believer in “drugs for the rest of your life” type advice that I’m getting from my doc.

Any advice would be REALLY appreciated!!

Thanks in advance,Dee from Ireland

What are the usual syptoms of these illnesses, how similar are they to each other and how can they be treated? is 'bowel removal' always necessary or can it be managed without having to have this drastic operation? I need as much advice as possible please. Thank you in advance.

I have Crohn's. Usual symptoms are abdominal pains, weight loss, anemia, and diarrhea.

I have never had to have surgery for my Crohn's. II was diagnosed with it 5 years ago and usually get by by just taking aspirin and eating healthy.

It's different for everyone though, some people might have it very very bad and do everything possibly to prevent a flare-up and still require surgery. Others will do nothing to take care of it and get by fine.

Colitis is fairly similar, but it is ulcers in your digestive tract. Most people who have Colitis usually have it worse than those with Crohn's disease.

Chrohns Disease affects the whole digestive tract whilst UC affects only the large bowel.
The usual symptoms are passing blood, mucus, loose stools, severe abdominal pain, temperature and nausea.

If you have any of these symptoms you should get checked by your doctor. These conditions can be managed by medication such as steroids. Surgery isn't always necessary in every case.

Ulcerative Colitis – I've had it for almost 30 years.Dull ache in lower bowel.Passing soup like excrement and/or lots of mucous and some blood.
Diet helped me,also getting older(I'm 48).
Don't have milk(try soya milk), or cheese etc.
Go to your doctor! I had to have a Barium enema(X-rays) which was uncomfortable but not painful. The earlier you get it seen to,the better.
E-mail me if you want.

Colitis is like polyps in the bowels, similar to hemorrhoids, and can cause pain, constipation and blood lose. Crones is more advanced and causes sever pain, the infected part of the bowel can be removed and sometime the full bowel and a colostomy bag fitted.
