Essex: Hospital runs asthma clinical trial

Adults who suffer from house dust mite induced asthma are invited to take part in new clinical trial.

Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford is one of only six sites in the UK to take part.

Dr Steve Jenkins, respiratory consultant and allergy specialist, said: “The aim of the trial is to investigate if an allergy vaccination (also known as immunotherapy) with a house dust mite tablet can reduce asthma symptoms and daily intake of asthma controller medication.

“All we ask for people to take part is that they are aged 18 years or over, have had asthma caused by house dust mites for a minimum of one year, have used inhaled asthma medicine for a minimum of six months within the last year and haven’t been to the hospital for their asthma within the last three months other than routine out-patient appointments.”
