Irritable bowel syndrome or IBS is a type of disorder that can cause so much discomfort to the person who has acquired it. Though this condition is not that lethal, it can disrupt someone’s lifestyle. How it disturbs a person is due to its symptoms which can include abdominal bloating, cramping, diarrhea and constipation.

Women are the common sufferers of IBS but a few men have also acquired this condition and can begin even on ages before 35 years old. with regards to prevention, the symptoms can be suppressed by engaging on the right diet or taking the prescribed medications.

Although the real cause of IBS has not yet been discovered, experts believe that colons being sensitive to specific foods are involved as well as stress. moreover, even the immune system has been hypothesized to be one of the causative agents of irritable bowel syndrome.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome Diet

Since Irritable Bowel Syndrome is believed to be associated with how the colon reacts to foods and stress there are IBS diet developed to help those who are affected with this disorder. it is a common notion that once a diet is intended to suppress certain disorder it is not tasty or delicious. and it is for this same reason that people failed to continue with their dietary treatment. But not Irritable Bowel Syndrome diet recipes because they are made delicious and guaranteed to control IBS.

The Irritable Bowel Syndrome diet includes drinks, appetizers, side dishes, salads, main dishes, desserts and many more. there are also recipes that include traditional and even international recipes to suit various taste. If there are recipes or foods allowed or advised for IBS patients there are also foods that needs to be avoided. and some of them include fatty foods like America’s favorite French fries, some milk products like cheese and ice cream, alcohol, coffee, sodas and chocolate. these types of foods often worsen IBS and should be avoided at all cost.

It is also important for a person with IBS to take note of the food he or she is eating in order to determine if it should be included in the diet plan.

The best diet to control IBS is to eat foods that are rich in fiber since it soften stool making it easier to bowel out. there are lots of food sources where one can get fibers such as bread, fruits, bread, beans, cereal and vegetables. However, make sure to slowly include fiber in your diet just to help your body to get accustomed to it and to prevent gas pain that may induce IBS symptoms.

Fiber pills are also available for the person with IBS to blend with a special kind of powder to produce a high-fiber mixture.

The Quantity of Food Intake Matters

It is also important to implement small frequent feedings when you are suffering from irritable bowel syndrome. Large consumption of foods triggers cramps and diarrhea if you have IBS. Finally if IBS symptoms persist even though you have followed the right steps in preventing the symptoms from developing, it is highly advised to consult this matter to the physician as soon as possible.

My partner suffers from IBS and cannot eat gluten or dairy products because of it. A friend of mine who suffers from Crohn's said these are all symptoms of the disease but could it be something else that I am missing?

Hi,
every one is right he should go to the doctors. They will prob have him have a colonoscopy, well they should, to look inside..Some of the symptoms sound like Crohns and some don't, though everyone presents differently.
________________________________

What Are The Symptoms of Crohn's Disease?

Crohn's disease can cause a variety of symptoms of gastrointestinal distress. The three classic (though not specific) symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease are:

Persistent or recurrent diarrhea (possibly with blood, mucus, or pus)

Abdominal pain

Fever
____________________________________

Good luck, I hope it's not Crohns.

Yes. your doctor can.

TAKE HIM TO THE DOCTOR

of course it could along with many other things. they caught mine with a colonoscopy, blood tests and cat scan… i went by the last 10 years thinking i had back problems and problems eating before i was diagnosed last September '06. i was sick all the time but it started with getting real bad sick about once a year which i thought was just a flu even though i was throwing up 1-3 days straight…The term IBD (Crohn's and UC) which are diseases that cause inflammation and much more… IBS is a condition and does cause pain(without inflammation) but it is not as extreme as UC and Crohn's. I thought I had IBS for a while too thinking I just had a lactose intolerance or had problems with gluten. how little did I know?

Get him to a doctor

I have crohns and have for a couple of years officially.. I do not have a problem with wheat gluten that is celiac's
digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases…
My symptoms for crohns were as follows.
explosive Diarreah (pooping out whole meds and mucus was present in stools)
Naseau
gas
severe cramping in lower right quadrant
low grade fever off and on
ehealthmd.com/library/crohnsd…
He will need to have a bunch of test to say for sure if he has crohns disease or not including sbft and colonoscopy and maybe more depending.

only a doctor can diagnose. something that serious should be handled by the doctor.

A zinc supplement cured my chronic mouth ulcers. Avoiding very high roughage foods like muesli helped the bowel problem. but mine was definitely owing to extreme stress.

Actually those s ymptoms are much more close to Celiac Disease than Crohns. IBS is a common misdiagnosis for Celiac (Crohns can be too). Mouth ulcers is a huge sign as well as the stomach problems.
Hopefully these sites will help, blood testing and endoscopies are the way to diagnose Celiac. THe only treatment is the gluten free diet. The good news is that many Celiacs avoid dairy at first but after awhile on the Gluten free diet, they can resume eating dairy.

Hmm, Crohn's is often stress related. Not too shure about the mouth ulcers. it would be stomach pains and diarreah as the two big symptoms.
Last week I was diagnosed with colitis although they havent confomred what type yet. I am on a high dose of steriods and anti inflammitorys. they are helping alot and I have never felt better! but I was wondering if any other colitis sufferers out there had a special diet that prevented or reduced the symptoms of colitis.

soft bland foods like potatoes, eggs ,bread meat and fiber, friuts and veggies that are seedless
no chips,bbq,seedy things

You should type in colitis on the Internet you will learn a lot about it and what diet is best.

I would say you should avoid a diet that is high in fiber.

Spicy foods, caffeine, dairy products, and red meat should all be avoided. also, avoid stressful situations.

I know that IBS is a seperate disease, but there are a lot of similarities. One thing that I have found with IBS is that if I eat lower fat options, I feel better. I can get away with dairy and red meat, for example, if I eat fat free dairy products and VERY lean meat.

Wikipedia has a pretty good description and information, but your best bet would be to ask your doctor! I'm so glad that you are feeling better!
