We think my grandaughter may have a touch of ADHD. But I need to know more of the symptoms to make sure.

The symptoms are based on the DSM IV which someone else has already listed for you.

Take a look at the assessment and answer it. It will give you a lot of specific examples for you to examine your grandchild with to get a good idea. Here are a few of the things from the checklist.

Does not work to potential in school, receives "not working to potential" teacher comments.

Has short attention span unless very interested in a particular subject.

Has a family history of Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, learning problems or substance abuse.

Is easily distracted.

Lacks attention to detail.

Has sloppy handwriting.

Has difficulty putting thoughts on paper.

Has trouble listening carefully to directions.

Frequently forgets or misplaces things.

Skips around while reading.

Has difficulty learning new games and new skills.

Has poor listening skills.

Inability to concentrate, forgetfullness, inability to sit still for very long, and having too many irons in the fire and then losing interest in them, not liking to read, and constant talking. I hope this helps.

How old is the child? Doctor's will not diagnose a child with ADHD if they are under 4 or 5 years. This is because a lot of the symptoms of ADHD are very similar to normal terrible twos behavior. they like to wait til the child is in school so they may get a teacher's perspective of behavior when the parent is not around. Symptoms can be, inability to sit still. not able to focus. Starting a project but not finishing. You should see you pediatrician.

Well a lot of synptoms but research now show what ever the problem kids get over it by age 15 or 16 usually.
