Residents of Acholi-bur Sub-county in Pader District are living in fear after one person died and two other suspected cases of Hepatitis E were reported in the area.

The deceased, Christine Anek Oloya of Ogago Parish, is said to have died after last week after showing signs and symptoms similar to that of the disease, which left scores dead in Kitgum and Pader districts last year.

Hepatitis E is a condition related to unhygienic environments and its earlier outbreak in the region in 2008 was associated to the unfriendly conditions in IDP camps.its symptoms are mild and last for a couple of weeks. they include fatigue, a sore throat, joint pain and excessive tiredness. Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver, most commonly caused by a viral infection.

Although not chronic, the disease has no cure and the only action that can be taken is to relieve the symptoms through rehydration. If the patient survives the infection, the virus disappears and the liver recovers.

Although many people have left the IDP camps to return to their homes, many health needs are still unmet as latrine and clean water coverage is still minimal.according to the Sub-county chairperson, mr Charles Okot, his office has launched an awareness campaign for all residents in the Sub-county and nearing areas to observe maximum hygiene in their homes.

“Sanitation in the sub-county has drastically dropped. the community does not seem to care anymore, thus creating room for the disease to re-emerge,” mr Okot said.the in-charge Acholi-bur Health Centre III, mr Michael Owiny, said with the laxity in the area, the disease is bound to spread further.

“We diagnosed the deceased at this health centre but we have to wait and come out with detailed information to confirm the outbreak,” mr Owiny said.

The District Health Officer, Dr Jane Oola, however, said her office is not aware of the disease outbreak but pledged to send a team of health officials on ground to ascertain the reports.

A few weeks before the 2010 U.S. Open, golf pro Phil Mickelson began to experience severe joint pain. even his regular practice routine suddenly became difficult to endure.

“I didn’t think much of it,” said Mickelson. “But I didn’t know what it was or what it could be.”

But 40-year-old Mickelson still couldn’t shake it. He and his family left for a vacation in Hawaii, where Mickelson’s aches and pains became so excruciating that he could barely get out of bed, never mind swing a golf club.

“I got really scared,” said Mickelson. “I started wondering what it was, and if it was even treatable.”

Mickelson immediately went to see a rheumatologist, who diagnosed him with psoriatic arthritis, a chronic, inflammatory arthritis caused by an overactive immune system. Symptoms and signs include stiffness, pain and swelling of joints, reduced physical function and reduced quality of life.

While athletic injuries can predispose people to early osteoarthritis, a degenerative disease of cartilage, there is no study that suggests sports predispose people to psoriatic arthritis, which usually hits those in their 30s and 40s.

Up to 30 percent of people who have psoriatic arthritis have had psoriasis, a common skin disease that causes itchy, dry red patches topped with silvery scales on the skin.

Mickelson said that he had psoriasis about eight years ago, and a dermatologist had treated him for it. After diagnosis, doctors put Mickelson on an individualized treatment program right away. Today, the golfer, who has won four major championships and 38 PGA titles, is back to his practice regimens and workouts.

My mom passed away on Dec/21st/07… she had been living with Lupus for 11 years. her docter had her on Prednisone that did more harm then good and I do not reccommend this drug to anyone . the side effects are unsurmountable.This effected her kidneys she had to go on dyalysis,her joints and skin , she was to meet with a specialist from the uk this month they test your DNA for a specific gene…….in our case our whole family would be tested to narrow down and take it from there.
My aunt passed away from Lupus 10 years this February, my sister has Lupus, my uncle has Lupus and my cousin has Lupus. This is just devastating

Some physical symptoms of depression are…

Sleeping too much or too little
Eating too much or too little
Headaches or stomach aches
Dizziness or light-headed-ness

These symptoms are caused simply because having a negative attitude and being sad all of the time can take a toll on the brain. It just kind of drags your physical health down into the same dark cyclone that your mental health is going into. People who are happier are less likely to get sick, and recover easier. Depression is not likely to make a person ill with anything other than depression, but these symptoms are still very unpleasant.

The only physical symptom was insomnia. I was getting 2 to 4 hours of sleep for about 6 months till I started an antidepressant and counseling.
It took me another year of insomnia before my sleep started to get to normal.

my sister in law was bitten by a flea and has chronic lyme. She has been experiencing shortness of breath, joint pain in all her joints and stiff neck with headaches.

Signs and symptoms

Lyme disease signs and symptoms vary widely because Lyme disease can affect various parts of the body. Not everyone with the disease will have all of the signs and symptoms. but in general, Lyme disease can cause:

Rash. A small, red bump may appear within a few days to a month, often at the site of the tick bite — often in your groin, belt area or behind your knee. it may be warm to the touch and mildly tender. Over the next few days, the redness expands, forming a rash that may be as small as a dime or as large as 12 inches across. it often resembles a bull's-eye, with a red ring surrounding a clear area and a red center. The rash, called erythema migrans, is one of the hallmarks of Lyme disease, affecting about 70 percent to 80 percent of infected people. If you're allergic to tick saliva, redness may develop at the site of a tick bite. The redness usually fades within a week. This is not the same as erythema migrans, which tends to expand and get redder over time.
Flu-like symptoms. A fever, chills, fatigue, body aches and a headache may accompany the rash.
Migratory joint pain. If the infection is not treated, you may develop bouts of severe joint pain and swelling several weeks to months after you're infected. your knees are especially likely to be affected, but the pain can shift from one joint to another.
Neurological problems. in some cases, inflammation of the membranes surrounding your brain (meningitis), temporary paralysis of one side of your face (Bell's palsy), numbness or weakness in your limbs, and impaired muscle movement may occur weeks, months or even years after an untreated infection. Memory loss, difficulty concentrating, and changes in mood or sleep habits also can be symptoms of late-stage Lyme disease.
Less common signs and symptoms. some people may experience heart problems — such as an irregular heartbeat — several weeks after infection, but this rarely lasts more than a few days or weeks. Eye inflammation, hepatitis and severe fatigue are possible as well.
Skin problems. in Europe, people with advanced Lyme disease may develop skin nodules and patches of thinning skin on their hands, elbows or knees.

I'm 20 years old and was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis over the summer. I guess 15-20% with colitis get rally bad arthritis and joint pain, and unfortunately i'm that 15-20%. I've been on high dosage of steroids for almost 3 months to help with the inflammation which seems to be working but Prednisone is seriously RUINING MY LIFE. My face is HUGE i've gained 20 pounds, can't sleep, night sweats, and i'm so depressed i'm actually crying right now I just need to know if i'll start feeling better after i'm off the steroids. I feel like a fat piece of crap, and no one understands. I'm a waitress and I can't work due to the joint pain so i'm so broke and I just feel so lost. I'm always SO happy but i've been a hermit lately, living in my room….my mom doesn't understand and just thinks i'm depressed even though i tell her all of the side effects that prednisone creates. has anyone gone through this? I need your stories to know i'm not alone…ANYTHING will help right now. please.

My cousin had those same symptoms Carly. she was using the prednisone for crohns, not colitis, but her face blew up and her bones and joints hurt all the time. the worse thing is the steroids didnt even help with her bleeding and diarrhea. she tried a few of those natural products too including Aloeelite and it was really expensive but it did help her. she hasnt taken it for a while cause we dont have the money but there are things out there besides the drugs. good luck

Prednisone YUK! it is the worst..I have Crohns/Colitis and have gone through exactly what you
are talking about. Wanted to eat the plaster on the wall! Blew up like a balloon my face looked
like a chip munk, But thank God I found this product on the internet someone told me about called
Aloeelite, (all natural no side effects and really works) finally after a few months I was able to get off the drugs and see the light again. No more cramping or bleeding and have stopped runnig to the
bathroom 20 times a day..So there is help don't give up. check it out. when you stop taking the Prednisone, you see the same symptoms coming back it doesn't heal anything, but the weight
goes away and your face looks normal again. the depression is from the drugs that will go away
too. Do some research on the internet beleive me you are not alone, there are millions of us out here who have gone through the same thing with this darn disease..

It is bleeding from within your large intestines. you lose a lot of blood, and it can sometimes be painful. you need to be careful here because bacteria can get into your bloodstream. It is a disease of the lower intestine and rectum. It can be difficult to diagnose because its symptoms resemble those of other intestinal disorders .

Quite a lot of people with the condition have mild symptoms. others, however, experience frequent fevers, bloody diarrhea, nausea, and severe abdominal cramps.

I've had IBS for 22 years and was diagnosed without any internal examinations when I was 14. I have always suffered bad cramps, bloatedness, food intolerances and just wondered if anyone knows if there are many differences between the conditions?

I have it and Chron's disease is extremely painful, I felt like passing out with the pain. You also have alot of blood and mucus in your stools. if you feel it may be more than IBS, see your GP and ask for a Barium meal and a colonoscopy, that will find out for sure. Docs usually put alot of things under the umbrella of IBS, they did to me when i first went GP but I kept going back cos it kept getting worse.

Other symptoms I have is alot of joint pain, tends to be in the knees, hips, elbows, wrists and shoulders.

People with Crohn's disease or Coeliac disease which is untreated will tend to have weight loss and things like anaemia and other vitamin deficiencies caused by malabsorption in the intestines. Crohn's disease causes bloody diarrhoea up to 20 times a day when someone has a flare up.
