ex. say you got infected on monday. when do you actually begin to feel sick?

I am asking because on monday my friend, who was not sick at that time, but contagious (she was sick w/ fever today, tuesday, & you are contagious up to one day before the symptoms), made me hold her clothes which she likely coughed on. If she did, I probably got the virus because I didn't wash my hands after touching the clothes and proceeded to eat, etc.

Probably about twenty-four hours after exposure. Onset can either begin with a sore throat and gradually develop into a cough, headache, and aches, or it can come on suddenly. either way, be sure to get plenty of rest and drink lots of clear liquids (I know, basic advice, but it really does work!) and take some aspirin for the fever.

It's also possible that your body was able to fight the virus even after you contracted it, if you have a strong immune system.
