I have had several cognitive, memory, and decision making problems in the last few years and want to know if it could be MS related.

Not really sure but perhaps you should get in to see your family physician for a referral to a neurologist. I do know that symptoms of MS can be a much less serious condition as my sister was finally diagnosed after having alot of MS symptoms with something quite benign and it went away. so good luck and take care of yourself.

The only way to find out what is causing your problems is to go to your doctor. an MS diagnosis usually starts by ruling out all other possible causes for your problems, followed up by an MRI and if the MRI reveals plaques, a lumbar puncture.

There is a regimen t he doctors must follow before diagnosing MS which requires more than one episode for further explanation. If your doctor thinks you have MS he will not tell you even if he thinks you have probable MS. he will run blood work and keep an eye on your sed rate and if he feels strongly about MS as a diagnosis he will have you do visual and audio evoked testing as well as a dizzy test and refer you to a neurologist and an audiologist and an eye doctor as well. you would have an MRI performed to see how many lesions you have as well as a spinal tap to see if you have any spirochete in your spinal column. even with all of these test a doctor won't diagnose MS unless it is rapid progressive MS. why? well they have to rule out every other possibility before giving the diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. you can be having these problems due to other disease or due to the aging process and sometimes medications do this to your system as well. The diagnosing process is long and grueling at times and people sometimes give up and feel like they are just crazy because they keep going to the doctor in hopes of some answers and they get nothing except follow up with me in two months or if anything else occurs.

There's no way to know what is causing your problems without some sort of neurological exam. these types of problems can be caused by all sorts of things. Usually the first symptoms with MS are things like fatigue, problems with balance, sudden loss of vision, paralysis, or tingling sensations, but its possible that problems with cognitive functions or memory could be the first signs of MS, if the plaque starts in the brain. It would be good to schedule a visit to a neurologist if you are concerned.

The only way to be sure if you have MS is to see a neurologist who will send you for an MRI of your brain and spinal cord to see if there are lesions (old scaring from previous attacks)…I would also concider getting tested for Lime disease the symptoms you are describing are also common in Lime, I would start there your family doctor can order the test for you but ask for the test which detects the DNA for lime in your blood..its more expensive about 180.00 and most insurances won't pay for it but it is the best and most accurate test available. The most common test it called the Titer lime test. It is only 50% accurate if you test positive your all set but if your negative there's a 50 % chance the test is wrong and you still may have lime the test just didn't detect it. While your waiting for the test results have your doctor refer you to a neurologist so you have an apointment if the test is negative. Hope this helps some.

It may be but thats just one sign I and my brother bothhave MS,only wayto know is a mri to see if there are leasions on your brain or spine.Everyone's symtems are different and affects are different, my brother and i have alot of different symtems. tell your doct what you thinkalot of docs dont think of ms is whats wrongonly mri and spinal tap can tell them.I hope you dont!!! my nuro keeps telling me that there will be a cure by 2010 for MS lets pray!!! TOKYO – Japanese Hepatitis B sufferers thought to have caught the disease from repeated use of needles during a vaccination programme have agreed to settle a dispute with the state, at the cost of US$39 billion (S$50 billion).

The decision will bring to an end a series of lawsuits across the country but it will pose the government with a headache as it looks for ways to raise the 3.2 trillion yen (S$50 billion), with the possibility it may have to to raise taxes.

Tokyo had already expressed a readiness to accept the proposal, bringing to an end the country’s largest medical dispute that will see it compensate about 430,000 people infected with the potentially fatal disease during decades ago.

“This is a tough decision, but we decided to accept (the proposal) to end this issue swiftly,” the plaintiffs said in a statement issued Saturday.

“We demand that the government learn from this lessen and do the best to solve this problem as soon as possible,” said one of the plaintiffs, Mieko Taniguchi, adding that the court proposal was not enough to rescue everyone.

Earlier this month, the Sapporo District Court proposed that the government pay 12.5-36 million yen in damages to each hepatitis B patient depending on their health condition.

The court has also proposed that the government pay 500,000 yen each to virus carriers who do not show any symptoms yet.

Total 630 people have filed damages suits with 10 district courts across Japan, arguing that the government should be held responsible for the mass infections as it failed to take necessary measures.

I am a 23 yr old female with multiple sclerosis symptoms. Going to see the specialist in 2 weeks for an appointment and testing. I have experienced finger numbness, dizziness, muscle weakness and heaviness, tremors – both severe for a few moments and also continual less noticeable tremors, heavy tongue, whole body vibrating feeling, pins and needles in arms and legs, facial numbness. was told twice by the ER doctor it was anxiety. now finally have a refferal to see the neurologist. I have also been experiencing muscle spasms more predominantly on my left side, where both numbness' occured. the painless muscle spasms are now becoming, over a short period of two days, involuntary finger and hand movements, every now and again a leg or arm (spasticity) and less noticeable but never the less still happening, other hand and toe/foot spasms.. looks like an obvious dx of multiple sclerosis to me. Obvioulsy very frightened as to the prognosis as i appear to be having alot of symptoms over only a short few weeks. any opinions appreciated.

so sorry to hear you may have MS. the symptoms you describe are common to MS.
The diagnosis process includes, an MRI of the brain, possibly a lumbur punture, and some thing called the Mc Donald criteria.

If you are DX'd with MS you may be perscribed IV steriods to minimimize your exasperation and will talk about disease modifying drugs.which can slow progression and exasperations.

I use several alternative treatments to dael with the symptoms. Copaxone injections, low Dose Naltrexone to slow progression and to feel better and supplements including Vitimin B,D, alpha lipolic acid, fish oil or hemp oil and an occaisional puff of medical cannabis to control muscle spasms.

Can any multiple sclerosis sufferers tell me what their *very first* symptoms were and which made them realize that something pretty serious was up?

Mine started one Saturday morning with a tingling in my gums in the left side of my face. During the day the tingling spread to my lips and I thought I might have developed some kind of sea food allergy, since I had crayfish the night before. two days later exactly half my face, including half my tongue was numb/pins and needles.

I went to the doctor on a Monday, she did some reflex tests and then referred me to a neurologist who saw me the next day. I actually never once thought it could be anything serious until the MRI results came back and my neurologist said he was 100% sure it was MS and that the lumbar puncture would only confirm it, which it did.

my initial symptoms were right side weakness and electrical like shocks that resonated through my body. then came a bout of optic neuritis and blind in my right eye when I woke up one day. then the constant fatigue and pain. an MRI showed lesions on my brain, an LP showed abnormalities in my spinal fluid and the ON confirmed the DX.

Basically, it's a liver disease. It causes inflamation of the liver and may or may not result in permanent liver damage.

I dont know of the symptoms, but its transmission is through body fluids. It can be prevented by a series of vaccines. In 1998 it became mandatory for all school children in florida to get the series of 3 shots. now they routinely vaccinate infants as well.

Hepatitis B transmission is also possible through needles… specially if doing drugs where in people share the needles. mother to fetus transmission can also occur. best prevention is vaccination. prevention on top of cure – works well for all diseases.

One dose of DTaP vaccine is recommended at each of the following ages: 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 15-18 months, and 4-6 years old. DTaP vaccine may be given at the same time as other vaccines. a booster shot of Tdap (an adult formulation) is recommended at ages 11-18 years. and then subsequently boost at least every 10 years.

The second most important step in the prevention of tetanus is immediate care of the wound. Roadside injuries should be given very careful attention as accidental wounds are almost always contaminated with tetanus spores and are likely to cause tetanus. apart from a thorough cleaning of the wound, all foreign bodies; debris, etc. must be carefully removed, and if need be, even the whole wound may be surgically excised under anesthesia so that the wound becomes thoroughly sterile.
