I have all the classical symptoms. My pms is horrible and I am very irritable, stressed, and depressed most of the time. I lost interest in sex. Some days I am so fatigued I can hardly stand it and the terrible insomnia I have makes it even worse. I have night sweats too. but what really tops it off is the anxiety and panic attacks, which I already have but it was under control. now I have anxiety and panic attacks all the time and when I get my period it is even worse. Natural supplements did not work for me. I just do not know how much longer this is going to last. I can not take it any more. I have had perimenopause symptoms for many years, but now over the last 6 months things have really raged out of control. does this possibly mean I could be reaching the end? I hope so. please, let me know what you think and share your perimenopause experiences with me. thank you.

You don't mention your age, but all my "perimenopause" symptoms turned out to be chronic Lyme and babesia, along with severe electrosensitivities, so I would research both.

Lymenet:

flash.lymenet.org/ubb/ultimatebb.…

Microwave Sickness – Electrical Sensitivity & Hypersensitivity:

ei-resource.org/illness-infor…

Since technically I was "menopausal" and doctors were not concerned, even though I was too young – and since I was able to reverse it with Lyme/babs treatment and avoidance of EMF/RF exposure, ask me if I'll ever believe menopause is ever normal – not a chance.

Women continue to produce eggs until death, just like guys produce sperm…

boston.com/news/nation/articl…

…but when you have a bunch of male researchers determining what is and is not normal for a woman, of course it would stand to reason to guys, as virile as they are, that it would be 'normal' to a male researcher for a woman to run out of eggs right around the time she's no longer a sex goddess to him.

mood lability is normal.

This is a common complaint of women going through menopause, especially the anxiety/panic attacks returning. you probably need to get some meds for those. Taking some meds will helps ease your other symptoms also. see your doc, they might want to try some hormones like birth control pills to ease symptoms.

Majority of individuals experience anxiety night sweats due to mental stress while there are also others suffering from this condition due to a medical disorder. Sufferers of this case become stressful and can’t seem to placate themselves due to their incessant thinking as to what causes this irksome condition.

Candidiasis, more commonly known as candida, is a yeast-like fungus that inhabits the intestines, mouth, esophagus, throat and genital tract. This fungus usually lives in harmony with other bacteria and yeasts in the body, but sometimes it can multiply, weakening the immune system and causing an infection called candidiasis.

When there is an overgrowth of candida, symptoms like constipation, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headaches, bad breath, rectal itching, memory loss, mood swings, persistent heartburn, muscle and joint pain, sore throat, night sweats, severe itching, PMS, burning tongue, extreme fatigue, kidney and bladder infections and many, many more symptoms can be experienced.

In fact, the symptoms are so wide and varied that this disorder is usually not recognized and the patient is unsuccessfully treated for another disorder.

Anyone who has been on long-term antibiotic therapy, or has taken them often, probably has an overgrowth of candida. Antibiotics weaken the immune system and also destroy the friendly bacteria that keeps candida under control. As the fungus grows, it releases toxins that further weaken the immune system. the use of corticosteroid drugs can also increase your chance of having candida overgrowth.

One thing is for sure: if you like sugar, like most of the country, candida is likely interfering with normal body function as candida thrives in a high sugar state.

Because diet has such a huge impact on candida overgrowth, that is where we start. Your diet should be free of refined sugar including sucrose, fructose, fruit juices, honey and maple syrup. Foods with a high amount of yeast or mold such as cheese, dried fruits, peanuts and alcoholic beverages should also be eliminated. Milk and milk products have a high content of lactose (milk sugar) and should also be avoided until candida is brought under control.

Allergies from food and the environment will weaken the immune system and lead to a more hospitable environment for candida. Eliminating known allergens is as important as determining nutrient deficiencies. Deficiencies of vitamins a, B6, zinc, selenium, magnesium, essential fatty acids, folic acid and iron have been documented in patients with chronic candidiasis and contribute to overgrowth.

The ozone sauna is effective in eliminating fungus and candida is a fungus. Besides changing your diet, there are antifungal herbs such as garlic, ginger and cinnamon that you can use for cooking. There are many formulas on the market to eliminate candida and most contain caprylic acid. Enhancing the immune system and liver function is a big part of eliminating candida overgrowth.

A product called “Just Like Sugar” is available and is made from chicory root. It is used exactly like sugar but has no calories, no impact on blood sugar balance or triglycerides. It is completely natural and has no aftertaste.

When going through treatment for candida, most people experience a “die off” or Herxheimer reaction. This reaction happens when large amounts of candida die, releasing large amounts of toxins into the blood. Usually this amount of detoxification is more than the liver can handle and the person will experience a worsening of symptoms. It is important to not overload the system with antifungal agents and treat it through diet as much as possible.

Candida loves sugar, so eliminating it completely from your diet will have the strongest impact and the good bacteria will be brought back into balance.

Women who had hot flashes at the start of menopause but not later seemed to have a lower risk for heart attack and death than women who never had hot flashes, or those whose symptoms persisted long after menopause began.

By contrast, among the few women who developed hot flashes late—in some cases many years after menopause began—there were more heart attacks and deaths when compared with the other groups.

The research involved more than 60,000 women followed for an average of almost 10 years. It’s the first to examine timing of menopausal symptoms and subsequent risks for heart problems and deaths, said co-author Dr. JoAnn Manson, chief of preventive medicine at Harvard’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Recent studies linked hot flashes with higher blood pressure and cholesterol levels, which could suggest a higher risk for heart problems, but the new research offers a more detailed look, Manson said.

Lead author Dr. Emily Szmuilowicz, an endocrinologist with Northwestern University’s medical school, said the results should reassure millions of women who experience hot flashes or night sweats, which are essentially hot flashes that can be bothersome enough to awaken women.

The results suggest “there may be a positive side” to having these annoying symptoms, Szmuilowicz said.

The study was released online Thursday in the journal Menopause.

Dr. Elsa-Grace Giardina, a Columbia University specialist in women’s heart disease who was not involved in the study, said the research has several limitations and that more rigorous study is needed to prove the results.

Few women developed hot flashes long after menopause began, and for at least some, previous use of hormone pills may have increased their risks for heart problems, Giardina said.

But more than one-third of the women with late-onset symptoms never used hormones, and Szmuilowicz said the researchers took past hormone use into consideration and still found timing of symptoms played a role.

Menopause occurs when women stop having periods and estrogen levels dwindle. most women experience symptoms including hot flashes that can last for several years. But they don’t usually persist indefinitely or begin long after the beginning of menopause.

Hot flashes aren’t well studied but are thought to result from blood vessels dilating in response to the normal hormone fluctuations of menopause, Manson said. if they occur long after menopause begins it could signal a blood vessel abnormality that could also affect the heart, she said.

The research involved 60,027 women from the ongoing Women’s Health Initiative observational study, examining disease risk factors and health outcomes and funded by the National Institutes of Health.

Women were in their early 60s on average, about 14 years past the start of menopause, when they answered questionnaires about their health, education history, and symptoms including hot flashes and night sweats. Cardiovascular problems and deaths were tracked during almost 10 years of follow-up.

More than one-third, or almost 25,000 women, had early symptoms—hot flashes at the onset of menopause that had stopped before they enrolled. just 1,391 had late symptoms—hot flashes at enrollment but not at the start of menopause.

About 2.5 percent of women with early symptoms had heart attacks, compared with 3.4 percent of women with no symptoms and 5.5 percent of those with late symptoms. also, about 6 percent of the early symptom women died, versus 11 percent of the late symptom group and 8 percent of the symptomless women. Women who had persistent hot flashes throughout menopause had risks similar to those without symptoms.

Giardina noted that high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and obesity—which all can contribute to heart problems—were more common among the late symptom women.

But the researchers said they accounted for that and still found that timing of menopause symptoms played a role in later heart attacks and deaths.

Menopause marks the end of a woman’s menstrual cycling and fertility and is a condition that all women experience as they age. it occurs when the ovaries cease producing oestrogen and progesterone, two necessary hormones for a woman’s reproductive cycle to function.

Menopause typically occurs in a woman’s late forties or early fifties. The decreasing levels of oestrogen associated with menopause may cause more distressing symptoms that include:

- Decreased sex drive

- Racing heart (palpitations)

- Vaginal dryness and soreness

- Bone thinning (osteoporosis)

Hot flashes are the most frequent symptom of menopause and perimenopause. Soy products are high in isoflavones (phytoestrogen) and work in the body like a weak form of oestrogen that may help relieve symptoms. for some women, lowering their cholesterol level may help as it has may relieve hot flashes and night sweats.

Traditional Asian diets are high in soy, ranging from 40 to 80mg of isoflavones each day.

The average person in the US eats very little soy – less than 3mg of isoflavones each day.

It is recommended to consume a range of 40 to 80mg of isoflavones per day for adequate relief.

Five nutrition tips that can prevent long-term health risks associated with menopause

1. OSTEOPOROSIS

hdGet enough calcium. an adequate intake of calcium for women aged 51 and older is 1,000 (Thai DRI) _1.2g per day. Eating and drinking two to four servings of dairy products (300mg of calcium per serving) and calcium-rich foods such as sardines, canned salmon, broccoli and legumes will help ensure enough calcium in a daily diet. also soy isoflavones help promote better bone health and have a positive effect on bone density.

2.CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE

hdReduce foods high in fat. Fat should provide 30% or less of your total daily calories. also, limit saturated fat to less than 10% of your total daily calories. Saturated fat raises cholesterol and increases your risk of heart disease. Saturated fat is found in fatty meats, whole milk, ice cream, and cheese. Limit cholesterol intake to 300mg or less per day. also try to limit your intake of trans fat, found in vegetable oils, many baked goods and some margarines. Trans fat also raises cholesterol and increases your risk of heart disease.

3.EAT FRUITS AND VEGETABLES

hdInclude at least two to four servings of fruits and three to five servings of vegetables in your daily diet to get adequate fibre, vitamins and minerals.

4.USE SALT IN MODERATION

hdToo much sodium in a diet has been linked to high blood pressure. Limit adding salt, fish sauce and soy sauce to food and minimise cured foods (bacon and ham), foods packed in brine (pickles, pickled vegetables, olives, sauerkraut), and condiments (mustard, horseradish, ketchup, barbecue sauce).

5.LIMIT ALCOHOL INTAKE

hdWomen should limit their consumption of alcohol to one drink a day or less. one drink is a glass of wine (150ml), can of beer (360ml) or glass of whisky (45ml).
