Because of widespread sex education, many young adults and teenagers no longer believe some of the misconceptions about sexually transmitted diseases. Of course, a few individuals are still unable to distinguish fact from fiction. Here is a list of common myths about sexually transmitted diseases, and the truth behind the lies.

Fiction:1. You cannot get a sexually transmitted disease from oral sex. Fact:2. Sexually transmitted diseases are passed person-to-person through sexual contact. there are three different ways to engage in sex. These include vaginal intercourse, anal sex, and oral sex.

Fiction: 1. Oral contraception is a protection against sexually transmitted diseases. Fact:2. Birth control pills or oral contraception’s have a single purpose – protecting against pregnancy. some young girls believe that birth control pills may also decrease their chances of contracting a sexually transmitted disease. they are sadly mistaken. to protect against diseases, those engaging in sexual activity must take advantage of both birth control pills and condoms.

Fiction: 1. to pass herpes, an outbreak must have occurred. Fact: 2. Herpes is contagious days preceding an outbreak or the development of sores. Even though most couples protect themselves with condoms, condoms may not necessarily provide protection against herpes. Why? This is because herpes outbreaks often occur on areas not covered by a condom. In this instance, the sexually transmitted disease is passed by skin-to-skin contact. If having sex with a person infected with the herpes virus, certain drugs are available to suppress outbreaks, and decrease your odds of also becoming infected with the virus.

Fiction:1. If there are no symptoms, there’s no sexually transmitted disease. Fact:2. The majority of sexually transmitted diseases have no symptoms or mild symptoms. moreover, some symptoms may be mistaken for other less serious conditions. For example, gonorrhea is often mistaken for a bladder infection.

Fiction: 1. all sexually transmitted diseases are curable. Fact: 2. Sexually transmitted diseases caused by bacteria can be treated with antibiotics, diseases caused by viral infections are incurable. Drugs are available to control viral infection, but they will always remain in the body. Viral sexually transmitted diseases include AIDS/HIV, herpes, and human pappilloma virus.

Will I be protected from all HPV diseases if I have had the Gardasil vaccine?

I heard that you can get cervical cancer from having vaginal sex, anal cancer from having anal sex and throat cancer from having oral sex and that they’re caused by HPV. I know that the vaccine doesn’t protect against all types of cervical cancer but does it protect against getting throat and anal cancer from having anal and oral sex?

Gardasil is only approved for the prevention of cervical, vulvar and vaginal cancers caused by HPV types 16 and 18; genital warts caused by HPV types 6 and 11; and precancerous or dysplastic lesions caused by HPV types 6, 11, 16 and 18 in girls and young women nine through 26 years of age.

I know they are in clinical trails for using the vaccine in boys…and I have seen where they are seeing if it prevents Recurrent Respiratory Papillomatosis.

I feel sure that clinical trials are being done…and I am sure Merck the makers of Gardasil is hoping that it will prevent throat and anal cancers also.

The vaccine only prevents two high risk HPV types…and they are at least 15 other high risk HPV types…so we have a long way to go in preventing cancers due to HPV.

i got my blood drawn but i'm still waiting for results. he and i never had sex just fingering and he had no herpes symptoms and had never been sexually active before me, or me before him. is it possible i have it still?

If you have never had oral sex or regular sex then the only type of herpes you could possibly have is oral herpes (aka HSV1) which is what causes cold sores. some people count them selves as virgins even if they have had oral sex before. if you have cold sores you may test positive for HSV1. you can get cold sores on the mouth with out ever having sex and your partner could pass them to your genitals during oral sex if they have a sore at the time. I know it's not easy but try to keep calm and distract your self from trying to think about this too much until the result come back. if there is any thing then some one has some explaining to do.

I have a VERY sore throat that usually comes in the evenings but not always but it is on the left side of my throat…sometimes it moves to the other side of my throat as well….it can't make up it's mind!…nausea…bloating….general malaise…plugged ears….mostly my left one.I have had oral sex with a man (given and received) without a condom. should I go and get checked for stds or do you think I may just have some sort of cold/flu/other weird chest infection. Sounds like a Flu/Cold the sympotoms you have. But you should get checked for stds anytime you do something with a new partner and don't have a condom or dental warp.

Sounds more like you have a cold. But, if you're worried, don't take my word for it. go see a doctor.

the only real worry for oral sex is contracting herpes (cold sores) Sounds like you have a cold.

You should get tested as you had unprotected sex and a sore throat can be a sign of an std and it is better to be safe than sorry
nausea…bloating can be a sign of stomach problems like an ulcer or irritable bowel syndrome so see a doctor for tests and follow up as there could be more than one problem happening at once

the chances of you catching std's through oral – genital contact is highly unlikely, what you caught is probably a common cold, he could've been recovering from a cold, or just catching one, i'm sure you can tell if it was a full blown out cold, but go to the dr's anyway for reassurance.

it actually sounds like an inner ear infection which can give you ALL the symptoms you described above. go to the doctor, he'll be able to tell simply by looking in your ear if it's infected. if he says your ears are fine, then maybe consult him about your oral sex.

regardless, be careful who you're fooling ariound with.

A swelling of the epididymis (not positive if it swelled, it just protrudes and it seems peculiar to me), slight itching but usually only with heat and also an occasional sharp pain (although not for more than a second or two). there are no visible rashes or blisters. as I've already mentioned, my partner and I were monogamous and we had no encounters with each other or anyone else before this first oral encounter about three weeks ago. does this sound like something to be serious concerned about?

If it doesn't hurt much, it probably isn't epididymitis. consider the possibility of a spermatocele.

Any signs that look like they might be an STD are something to be concerned about. and yes, you can get it from oral sex.

Go see a doctor. If you have worries about embarassment or the like, then look at it this way: You may have something wrong with you, and if you do, you need to get it fixed or it will get worse.

Treat it like any other health issue and you'll do fine.

its only been about a week and a half and my throat feels really sore. could it be strep or something a little more serious?

NO an std on the mouth or genitals can take a while to show symptoms, one doesn't always appear before the other. If you have given oral sex to some one recently then an std could appear in your throat. This could possibly be an std or just a sore throat.
Try treating your throat with some over the counter lozenges. If it doesn't get better with in another week then you should see a doctor. it could be a bacterial infection or just a virus that's going around. But you won't know for sure until you can get it checked out.

I havent been active for nearly a year. I had a pap-smear done and i was shocked when it came back positive for chlamydia. a guy performed oral sex on me the day before i got the results. what are the chances that he contracted it? how soon do symptoms of throat chlamydia show up?

chlamydia is one of those STD's that can go a while wihtout being detected, cause there are no real symptoms. Although, it only takes 6 weeks of pills and no sex to clear it up. I would recommend he gets checked out for it. If he contracted it it would show up on a dr test already.

There is no 100% / 0% when it comes to STD's

The best option sadly is to face the music and tell him that it may be in his best interest to get tested.
If not he could go on to infect other people without knowing.

I was diagnosed with genital herpes but never had any symptoms whatsoever. If I have oral sex, how likely is it that I will infect my partner?

hsv1 usually oral,hsv2 usually genital BUT hsv2 can be in the mouth,when hsv1 goes in your genitials usually goes away because it can not survive the conditions,but if u have either one in your mouth u can give it to him if u suck em up good.lolz but seroiusly double check and best bet take some medicaiont reduces the probability of you spreading it to him or a dental dam..

Herpes simplex type 1 virus which causes an infection is called herpes. there are two main types of viruses which can cause herpes; Herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV 1) and herpes simplex virus 2 (HSV 2). Few people get early signs of herpes simplex type 1 cold sore before getting the outbreak.

Here are some of the symptoms:

1.  Some patient feels burning sensation, itchiness, or rashes before a day or two.

2.  Swollen and painful red blister around the face and especially at the edge of the lips.

3.  It later transfers into fluid-filled blister.

5.  The outbreak generally last for short time and then the blisters get dried up.

Test:

The HSV testing in generally used for those who have genital sores due to Herpes simplex 2 virus and when the herpes simplex 2 virus transmission is possible to the newborns.  The testing detects the presence of the virus by testing the herpes culture and HSV DNA. at first, the acute blood samples get collected and after several weeks the convalescent blood sample. HSV igG antibody levels will then be compared to notice if they have increased significantly which indicates a current infection in the body. on few occasions, spinal fluid, urine and tears are also used for testing.

The HSV infections can be very dangerous to newborns as their immune system is not strong as the grown -ups. one should also know the fact that herpes infected individual is more susceptible for HIV infection and at the same time HIV infected person get more infectious of HSV Virus.

Vaccine:

Currently there is no vaccine available for herpes. A lot of researchers are working on the same and investigating. It is assumed that the effective vaccine should be available in the market in next 3-5 years. however, the vaccine would only be able to prevent the virus transmission to the new patient; it would not help in curing the infected person.

prostate inflammation ,pain ,on 27 year old gay male. all other causes ruled out.
STD was the reason. From oral sex. antibiotic were used for more than 6 weeks, but infection seems to come back , and symptoms are present all time.
