Hi everyone

I was wondering if anyone else here can relate to the symptoms I have been experiencing recently. here they are…

* Mild to moderate shortness of breath.
* Frequent itching on arms, stomach, chest and legs
* some loss of libido with delayed ejaculation

I've had the shortness of breath (where you feel like you can't get a "full" breath) off and on for years along with tons of tests and everything always came back normal so it was concluded that it was simply anxiety (which I take Ativan for). For the last few weeks though, it has been pretty bad (especially during excersize). I should also mention that I have a lot of allergies, sinusitis, rhinitis, etc and I also have a lot of animals. I'm pretty sure the breathing problem isn't caused by my heart because I've had numerous recent chest X-rays, a stress test, lots of blood work, etc. I don't think it's anxiety or panic attacks either because I'm not anxious most of the time and because the shortness of breath is present even when I take the Ativan.

The itching is somthing that has started within the last week and I'm not sure what is causing it except that I have been eating a lot of chocolates lately but then again, I have never had this kind of reaction to chocolate in the past.

The loss of libido, delayed ejaculation has been with me for about 3 weeks. I do have a history of prostatitis but I don't currently have it. I am an alcoholic who drank for a year and a half, then quit for a year, then drank for a year and just quit for good 15 days ago. I also stopped smoking and only chew now.

Other than that, I am a male in my 40's, I eat healthy but spend way too much time at the computer and probably don't get nearly as much excersize as I should be getting.

Anyway, can anyone else relate to these symptoms?. I'd really appreciate hearing from you and getting some input.

Thanks so much, Phil

Anxiety, Asthma and Eczema is my guess. You could also be allergic to animals with fur. many people I know are too.

CHILDREN as young as seven are increasingly being diagnosed with anxiety, which is causing panic attacks, aggression and sleep problems.

Melbourne doctors have expressed concern at treating more children than ever for anxiety issues, blaming family breakdowns, busy lives and working families.

Royal Children’s Hospital developmental behavioural pediatrician Professor Jill Sewell said younger and younger children were being referred showing symptoms of anxiety.

Children displayed compulsive behaviours and symptoms similar to panic attacks in some severe cases, she said.

"in my experience, as a practising pediatrician, I have noticed an increasing number of primary school-aged children presenting with symptoms of anxiety," Prof Sewell said.

She said the rise was concerning, but there was not enough evidence to completely understand why.

"the sorts of things we feel are contributing are busy lives and urban living, complex family breakdowns, lack of extended family support … and stressed parents who are often busy with two jobs, which means long days for everybody," she said.

Family psychologist Sally-Anne McCormack echoed the concerns, saying today’s generation of children were under increasing pressure.

"it certainly is a fairly common diagnosis for children, the many different anxiety disorders that affect young people, and phobias," Ms McCormack said.

"We busy up our children a lot, and don’t necessarily give them time to just be kids. Over-scheduling causes anxiety for everyone.

"also, well-meaning parents could potentially place anxiety on them, wanting them to be the very best they can be.

"but by giving them the expectation that they have to achieve, we can place unnecessary pressures potentially on our children."

Richmond Hill Psychology’s Dr Janet Hall said one of the biggest issues for children experiencing anxiety was being bullied and picked on.

"Girls are often excluded from friendship groups, and this can destroy their confidence and self-esteem," Dr Hall said.

"Boys are more often physically intimidated."

It’s a condition with no known cause or cure, according to the Mayo Clinic, but it most often occurs in kids ages 3 to 7. Typically, it’s something kids grow out of by the time they’re teenagers, but it can last into adulthood, which is when things get really icky: For adults, symptoms can last as long as a week.

The National Institutes of Health lists all the possible triggers for an episode of near-constant retching: emotional stress or excitement; anxiety and panic attacks; colds, allergies, sinus problems and the flu; eating too much or eating before bed, hot weather, physical exhaustion, menstruation and motion sickness. (In short: Being alive can trigger symptoms.) Medications are sometimes prescribed to stop all the barfing, but the NIH says most people learn to control their symptoms by staying in bed and sleeping in a dark, quiet room.

Quoth one small sufferer of cyclic vomiting syndrome: ”I’ll vomit up to about 40 times a day. That’s just terrible, terrible. For being my age especially,” Olivia Brown told NBCLosAngeles.com.

Jemma Kidd. Successful career woman, mother of twins and blessed with ravishing looks. Rewind back to her 20s and her life was far from as peachy as it may have appeared to the outside world: Jemma was hiding the fact that she was suffering from an overwhelming anxiety disorder that was affecting every sphere of her life.

Panic attacks are anxiety attacks are the most common anxiety disorders, affecting at least 20% of adult Americans. In an interview with Fiona Shield for Celebrity Angels, Jemma described how the crippling disorder, often temporarily diabling, disorder affected her life on a day-to-day basis.

“the attacks are so random and debilitating that you become fearful of the fear that they bring. you start to anticipate them and find yourself doing anything to avoid them. I stopped driving on my own; I manipulated my life so that when I had to go somewhere, I had someone with me. I couldn’t go into the supermarket or anywhere crowded. If I was going to stay at someone’s house for the weekend, I would be anxious for about ten days before and would insist on knowing how close they lived to a hospital. the symptoms were so real that I believed I could have a heart attack at any time.”

A panic attack is an exageration of the body’s normal response to fear or stress. according to the Anxiety and Panic Disorder Center of Los Angeles, when we experience a threatening situation, the fight or flight response kicks in and the body prepares itself for danger by releasing adrenalin. the physical symptoms that occur include rapid heart rate, palpitations and an increase in blood pressure.

For most of us these symptoms taper off and the body is restored to it’s normal state. But when the body produces too much adrenalin, the sufferer can be left experiencing absolute terror that can linger on for hours, sometimes days.

Jodie, 36, suffered from the disorder throughout her 20s and she credits Charles Linden — who developed the Linden Method — with sorting her out. Experiencing up to 20 panic attacks a day, Linden came up with a routine to treat his own symptoms and break the habitual nature of anxiety.

Although there is no “quick fix”, Linden suggests trying the following to help divert a panic attack:

The dive reflex When you feel a panic attack building up, take a towel, soak it with cold water then place it on the back of your neck. you can also splash your face with cold water.

Diversion do anything to divert your mind. Put on headphones and listen to music. do practical chores, count trees or lampposts. Immerse yourself in whatever is present and practical at the time.

Cold Apple When you feel an attack is imminent, take an apple from the fridge and eat it very slowly. this will help to slow your breathing and the coldness of the apple helps to create positive, non-anxious sensations.

Symptoms can last for weeks or months at a time. there are a number of ways to ease these complaints ranging from household remedies to drug therapy.”Most cases of irritable bowel syndrome affect people between 25 and 50 years of age,” says Professor Wolfgang Kruis from the Evangelishes Krankenhaus hospital in Cologne. “But recently we have also discovered that certain physical preconditions, such as a bacterial infection or psychological stress, can lead to the symptoms appearing.”Women, as well as people with mental health problems such as depression or panic attacks, are more likely to suffer from irritable bowel complaints than men.Kruis says that in many cases a doctor can diagnose the syndrome to a high degree of certainty based on knowledge of the patient’s health history. “We now know that symptoms are related to causes of stress in a patient’s life. The symptoms often disappear when the patient goes on holiday, for example.”Nevertheless, physicians still recommend getting a blood test to check for infections. It is also a good idea to have an ultrasound examination of the stomach and a colonoscopy.”In young patients, an internal examination can help diagnose a chronic inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn’s disease,” says Professor Irmtraut Koop, chairperson of the North German Society of Gastroenterologists in Hanover. In older patients with recurring incidents of constipation, cancer of the colon may be diagnosed. This is one of the most common cancers today.according to Kruis, conventional medical examinations of patients with symptoms of an irritable bowel often do not reveal anything unusual. But the latest medical research indicates that nerve cells in the intestine are not working properly and that the body’s immune system is malfunctioning.Peppermint oil capsules, artichoke extract, bran, and Psyllium seed husks can be used to ease the symptoms of an irritated bowel. Germany’s Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care has examined a range of studies concerned with treating irritable bowel complaints, including the effects of a roughage diet.Bran is an insoluble form of roughage while Psyllium seed husks are a soluble form that can bind fluid together. according to the institute, Psyllium husks are better for treating an irritable bowel than bran.if constipation continues for a prolonged period of time, Koop recommends using laxatives available from the pharmacy. “You could also try tried and trusted methods like drinking buttermilk or eating prunes.”Koop recommends using peppermint oil capsules to deal with flatulence as studies have shown they can help in many cases. other forms of peppermint such as oil drops or a solution have not been studied in depth.Cramp can be treated by drug therapy such as using a substance that contains the active ingredient Butylscopolamine.
