depends, it varies from person to person. although most are treated with some form of prescribed medication, some go for years without.

my experience was medications started it… im off all meds and i still have episodes every now and then… schizo can be audio and visual hallucinations… mine have gotten better without meds because i have learned to adapt… when u see something that ur not sure is real watch other ppls reactions to wat ur seeing if they arent reacting to it then its not there so take a deep breath… hearing things if others arent responding to wat ur hearing then take a deep breath it isnt real… coping with it doesnt mean u have to have meds… it just means figuring out a way to tell wats real and wats not…

LAS CRUCES — The MS Walk held Saturday at Young Park Pavilion, hosted by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society promotes awareness and educates people dealing with the disease, as well as people who have never been affected by the disease.

Organizers of the walk aim to raise nearly $20,000 to help support cutting-edge research and provide programs and services for people with MS — an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system. MS interrupts the flow of information within the brain and the body, and symptoms differ from person to person in their consistency and their progression. not everyone with MS is affected in the same way, but symptoms can range from tingling and numbness to blindness and paralysis.

While the cause of MS is unknown, it affects more than 400,000 people in the U.S. and 2.1 million worldwide. Most people diagnosed with MS are between the ages of 20 and 50, with at least two to three times more women being diagnosed than men.

“They call it the sneaky disease, because it sneaks up on you, and you get the attacks when you least expect them,” said Jamie Phillips, 49, who was diagnosed with MS in April 2005.

Former Aggie basketball standout Kelsey Crooks, 29, was also diagnosed with MS about four years ago. Kelsey will be the speaker at the MS Walk. Crooks, who once powered through daily practices for both basketball and soccer — he was an all-district star in both sports at Oñate High School — is now forced to use a cane on a daily basis, due to his lack of balance.

MS Walk Committee Chair Katie Baker said the MS Walk last year attracted around 100 people. This year, Baker said Mayor Ken Miyagishima is scheduled to attend the event, as well as several organizations and clubs, which she hopes will draw in a bigger crowd.

“The National Honor Society is going to be doing all of our volunteer work, we have the mariachis coming, the performing dance team is coming, ROTC is coming, cheerleaders and more, ” Baker said.

“An MS Walk is about rallying the community together to make them understand that we have a very good cause and we need people to be aware of that,” Phillips said.

Baker said there will also be checkpoints set up throughout the walk that will provide food and water to participants.

Baker stressed that anyone who would like to participate in the MS Walk in any way, needs to register first.

Anyone who would like to participate in the walk, volunteer or simply make a donation can register at walkMSnewmexico.org. Day-of event registration begins at 8 a.m. and the walk will start at 9 a.m.

Baker said there is no cost to register and participants can be as involved as they want to be. Dogs are also welcome at the walk.

What is rabies and how serious can it be?

Rabies is a dangerous, infectious disease caused by a virus that gets into your body usually from an animal bite, scratch, or when an animal licks you on broken skin or mucous membranes, such as your nose or mouth. this is most often a dog, but bats, cats, or any other warm blooded animal can also carry rabies. Person-to-person spread of rabies has only been reported in exceptional circumstances. Children are at particular risk of rabies. Rabies is a very serious infection because, once symptoms appear, it is nearly always fatal, causing between 40,000 to 70,000 deaths worldwide each year. a fatal case of rabies contracted in a wildlife centre, South Africa

In 2009, a young woman from Northern Ireland died from rabies. it is thought that the woman acquired the disease after being bitten by a dog whilst she was working at an animal sanctuary in South Africa three years previously. Rabies symptoms?

If you are bitten, scratched or licked (where the skin is broken) by a dog or other warm blooded animal, always seek urgent medical attention. Rabies is preventable if wound cleansing and vaccination are given soon after the bite or scratch. Early symptoms can be non-specific. the disease then progresses to paralysis, followed by coma and death. Without intensive care, death occurs during the first seven days of illness. Encourage limited bleeding. 2) if possible apply antiseptic or 40-50% alcohol (whisky or other spirit can be used). 3) Regardless of whether you have completed a rabies vaccination course, you should always seek urgent medical advice. if possible avoid having the wound stitched (sutured) straight away. 4) a healthcare professional should assess your level of risk and may recommend further preventative vaccinations (called post-exposure prophylaxis). apart from the obvious health protection it is really worth being vaccinated against rabies before you travel because you will only need two further vaccinations, given over two days after a bite or scratch. People who haven’t had the rabies vaccine usually need five post-exposure vaccines given over a month and possibly rabies immunoglobulin for quick protection. Rabies immunoglobulin is in short supply worldwide and is very difficult to get hold of. the course of five vaccines can be very disruptive to travel plans, as the person and possibly their travel companions) needs to remain near to a clinic. 5) Contact the local British Embassy or Consulate for advice if you are having difficulties finding a clinic with the vaccines. Health officials in Ontario County are on the alert since several cases of whooping cough have been reported. also called pertussis, the potentially serious disease usually starts with cold-like symptoms lasting one to two weeks followed by weeks to months of severe coughing attacks. Ontario County Public Health recently received reports of cases in the county, said Mary Beer, county director of pubic health. All were children who have recovered, she said. the disease is highly contagious and also preventable with a vaccine. it is not uncommon to have a few cases reported in a year, said Beer. even so, it is important to take the illness seriously, Beer said: “it hangs on for a long time. … It’s no fun.” Of particular concern is making sure infants and young children don’t get it, as they don’t have a big lung capacity and are more at risk. Whooping cough is spread from person to person through moist droplets released into the air when a person coughs or sneezes. Babies are not protected against whooping cough because they are too young to be fully vaccinated. Vaccinating people who have contact with infants is vital to protecting the youngsters: that means new fathers, grandparents, siblings, babysitters, healthcare workers and any person who has close contact with an infant. Women not vaccinated prior to pregnancy should be vaccinated as soon as possible after delivery. Dr. Carlos R. Ortiz, Thompson’s senior vice president of medical services, said Thompson has seen a handful of whooping cough cases — mostly in children — in its primary care offices and in its emergency department. None of the cases, as of Friday, had resulted in an inpatient admission. Our bodies are always speaking to us and if we do not tune in we will never understand the messages being communicated through, so it’s imperative that we remember how to listen and identify why things are not going well. Candida infections and associated symptoms are not the same from person to person, depending on the area infected, the organ or part infected and the extent of the infection.

My friend has swine flu and i was with her for long periods of time before and during symptoms showing, how long, if at all will it take for me to get symptoms if i have caught it? and how long do these last for?

Obviously, discovering how is swine flue transmitted means understanding that swine flu normally does not infect humans. only those who were in constant, direct contact with infected pigs was at risk.

Now this particular strain of the virus is airborne and is passed on through person-to-person contact.

And another thing, the swine flu incubation period can last for up to 7 days after you’ve been in contact with an infected person.

I'd say 24-72 hours for incubation period – and for first symptoms to start displaying themselves. If you've not displayed any after 72 hours you should be fine. and as a bonus, your body may have fought of the infection without you actually getting it – and you'll have some immunity.

I caught Swine Flu from a friend (although I went to her house because I WANTED to catch Swine Flu, and to get it over and done with before I went on my holiday (a cruise)). Within 24 hours my temperature was up, and 36 hours later the cough developed.)

I only suffered for about 72 hours after my temperature went up. Spent an extra two days at home after temperature returned to normal to ensure I was better and that I wasn't at risk of infecting anyone else.

It was like having a bad cough, and I'm not quite sure what all the fuss is about.

What you're asking about is the incubation period that infections have. The incubation period for swine flu is 2-4 days. The primary symptoms last about 5-7 days but the cough and weakness may persist for 10 days and up to 2 weeks. your friend will continue to be contagious for about 5 days after her first symptoms appeared.
