My sister lives in San Antonio, and the allergy count is really high. She has stuffy nose, red eyes, sore throat, and no fever. Is it safe to assume that she just has allergies, or is it a cold?

a rabbit is in my yard running around fuirously in small circles as though he is trying to catch his tail. He has been doing this for a least 25 minutes. He'll stop for a few seconds and then run around like he is mad. do you think he has rabies?

If he has had rabies shot he'll be fine, if not I'm not sure. He would not have much fear of things he normally would he would be aggressive. Call a vet and ask them their opinion on your rabbit.

I don't know if the rabbit has rabies but he's face would look kinda poor looking. And don't let him bite you, you might want to leave him alone so the rabbit leaves but if he doesn't, u either kill the rabbit or grab him with gloves and put him somewhere else

It is possible that it has rabies, but not necessarily so . . .

Regarding wild rabbits, I found this advice:

I saw a skunk with rabies once. It kept charging at my beagle mix, & skidding on the decomposed granite, making a hissing noise that I think was caused by its nails skidding across the 'DG', which noise excited my dog to no end. He was yapping up a storm, but as I watched each advance & skid of the skunk, it never tried to attack –or spray– him. So, I went out with my leash & brought the dog in when it retreated for another intended advance. I then kept watching the skunk, & it remained in the yard for some time, running & skidding at nothing. It's nervous system was so overexcited that it couldn't stop. A few days later we noticed the smell of rotting flesh a few hundred feet beyond our fence, on my dad's property. It looked like that skunk. I feel sure it had rabies. Maybe it had lockjaw by the time we had the encounter, but for whatever reason, we were very fortunate to have avoided getting bitten.

In the new York Times for August, 17th 2009, the title was “REALLY: Stress Can make Allergies Worse?” the Times wrote about the recent research done showing how psychological factors like stress and anxiety could exacerbate allergy symptoms. Scientist believe that the increase in symptoms is due to the fact stress can affect the immune system response, causing elevated levels of substance that heighten the allergic response. With the general population being overly stressed, it’s never been more important to include some form of stress reduction to your daily routine. the scientist went on to say that this could be why some allergy sufferer’s are unaffected by using standard treatments for hay fever, like antihistamines. the most recent study on the affects of stress on allergy symptoms was done at Ohio State University.

“On two different days the scientists subjected hay fever sufferers to a series of skin prick tests to measure their responses to allergens, including the size of the wheals they developed. on one day the subjects gave speeches to a panel and then had to solve math questions in their heads, this was the stressor group. on the other day they had less stressful tasks, like reading magazines. Wheal diameters increased after the stressor, the scientists wrote, compared to a slight decrease following the control task. even a day after the stressor, the most anxious subjects continued to show severe symptoms, suggesting a lingering response from the anxiety.”

Feline rabies is a disease of the central nervous system. Cat rabies develops in three stages: prodromal, furious and paralytic.

The virus is transmitted by bites from a rabies-infected animal. Be cautious if your cat got bit by another animal-rabies will not present symptoms right away. it takes 2 to 5 weeks for the virus to spread in the cat’s body and for the symptoms to occur. Keep a watchful eye for the following 12 symptoms of feline rabies:

Poor coordination and the lack of balance are among the earliest signs of rabies. If you notice your pet banging his head into a lot of objects you need to look into the problem.

Manifested in the early stages of rabies, yowling can point to health disorders. The voice of the cat with rabies suffers changes.

Conjunctivitis is an inflammation of the eye membranes so you will notice swollen, red eyes.

The cat is producing excessive saliva due to the rabies, and will be constantly drooling.

Cats with rabies are very irritable and will reject any type of affection. This is typical to the stage two of rabies: the furious stage. Cats having rabies are vicious and will bite and scratch more than usual. they will also knock over objects they come across with.

Your cat is fighting imaginary objects or eating stones.

If your cat has elevated fever, this may be a sign of an infection or it may as well be a sign of cat rabies. In any case, it is vital to visit a vet.

Vomiting is an indicator of many cat conditions starting from parasites to pregnancy, however rabies can cause the cat to throw up.

When your cat leaves food untouched, that’s an alarming sign. This is caused by the lack of appetite, but may also be because the face muscles are partially paralyzed-and this means that the rabies is in its last stage.

This symptom goes hand in hand with the lack of appetite.

This is caused by the partial paralysis. The cat cannot breathe normally and this can lead to respiratory failure.

This is a symptom of the paralytic stage; by this time there is nothing to be done to save the cat.

Feline rabies is not a common disease, but it can be fatal. Rabies may cause different secondary diseases such as urinary infections, respiratory infections or renal insufficiency. Rabies can be prevented by proper vaccination. The sooner you act the better; identify early signs and get help from your vet.
