Alzheimers is a type of dementia. we noticed symptoms in his early 60s, but dementia/Alz wasn't in the news much then. People just thought it was the usually senility as one ages. now we know.

Am I more likely to get this if one parent has it? what can I do to decrease any chances, if so?

dementia may be caused by other factors such as diabetes. If you don't share these other factors and u keep mentally active(that's important) you should be all right.
