While doing humanitarian work in Sudan, the actor contracted malaria for the second time.

Last night, George Clooney revealed the toll that his humanitarian work is taking on him, saying he recently contracted malaria for the second time.

In early Jan., the actor traveled to Sudan to see the effects of violence near the border. He also stayed to watch the voting procedures where citizens overwhelmingly voted for Southern Sudan to become independent. To prevent future atrocities, Clooney even spearheaded the Satellite Sentinel Project, a partnership with MTV, the UN and others to point satellites at Sudan to let cruel leaders know “the world is watching.”

Apparently he’s felling better. In the interview on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight,” which will air tonight, he explained that was successfully treated and is doing fine. He certainly looks as good as ever.

Malaria is hardly a problem in the US but kills about a million people a year in developing countries. It’s caused by the bites of infected mosquitoes; symptoms include chills, fever, vomiting and diarrhea.

He’s certainly in good spirits, though there’s no love lost between him and the mosquitoes. “I guess the mosquito in Juba looked at me and thought I was the bar,” Clooney joked.
