Pancreas is a large gland this is located behind the stomach and pancreatitis is the inflammation of this gland. The symptoms of acute pancreatitis include sudden pain or pain that builds up gradually in the upper middle or upper left part of the abdomen, nausea and some vomiting, fever and/or chills, a tender and swollen abdomen, and a very rapid heartbeat. for chronic pancreatitis, the symptoms are low blood pressure, bleeding, liver problems, difficulty in concentrating, inability to digest food, leading to weight loss, and diabetes due to inability to produce insulin.

The treatment for acute pancreatitis in a hospital is all about healing the pancreas. you will receive fluids intravenously to maintain your blood pressure and to replace the fluids lost. you will also get medicines for the pain and for fighting the inflammation. you will not eat anything for three to seven days to allow the pancreas time to heal.

If the cause of the pancreatitis is gallstones, you will have a procedure called ERCP, or endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatogram. This procedure is done to remove the gallstones from the bile duct. After the pancreatitis is gone, surgery may be done to remove the gallbladder to prevent future problems. To treat pancreatitis, there is need for medicines that stop the production of stomach acids such as Pepcid and Zantac.
