RUN to Serve 2011, a fund-raising activity for patients with psoriasis, will kick off at the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) parking area on January 16.

The race features the three-kilometer, five-kilometer, and 10K categories that offer cash prizes to the winners.

The 10K champion will pocket a cash prize of P5,000 while the 2nd placer will go home with P3,000 and P2,000 will go to the 3rd placer.

It is presented by the SPMC Department of Dermatology that aims to help patients with skin diseases.

SPMC resident physician Christine A. Calolot, in a statement, said psoriasis is one of the most common skin diseases. it is not contagious. Its symptoms include red, scaly patches that may appear in any part of the body, and it causes the skin to itch, burn, and bleed.

“There is still no definite cure for psoriasis, the only treatment available is to control the symptoms, eliminate the complications, and improve patients’ quality of lives,” she added.

Registration fees are P250 inclusive of a singlet and P200 without a singlet.
