Where it should be pink, smooth and nice it becomes red, weepy and unhappy — it looks like you’ve taken the skin off your knee. The main symptoms are diarrhoea, blood in stools, stomach pains and feeling rotten. It goes up and down. You will have good periods of remission when you feel normal – that can be a month or even a few years – and bad periods when you feel dreadful and can be forced to go to the toilet six, eight or 10 times a day around the clock, including two or three times a night. if you can imagine having food poisoning and that going on for weeks on end, rather than days, that’s what it’s like.

“It’s quite a common condition. if you take ulcerative colitis together with Crohn’s disease, which has similar symptoms, they are known together as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). one in 200 people in the UK develop IBD, so around 300,000 have that. Young people aged between 10 and 40 get it.

“It’s not a curable condition unless you have an operation. With surgery you take the colon out completely. People often need an external bag to collect their faeces, though some people get an internal pouch which lets them go to the toilet normally. so you wouldn’t have surgery unless you had to. However, one-third of patients end up having an operation to remove their colon at some point in their lives.

“The cause of colitis is unknown. It’s genetic to some extent, but less than with Crohn’s disease, but something unknown in the environment comes along and sets it off. It could be food, atmospheric pollution or stress – no one really knows what it is. It could be all of them.”

The major symptom of an ulcer is a burning or gnawing feeling in the stomach area that lasts between 30 minutes and 3 hours. this pain is often interpreted as heartburn, indigestion or hunger. the pain usually occurs in the upper abdomen, but sometimes it may occur below the breastbone. In some individuals the pain occurs immediately after eating. In other individuals, the pain may not occur until hours after eating. the pain frequently awakens the person at night. Weeks of pain may be folowed by weeks of not having pain. Pain can be relieved by drinking milk, eating, resting, or taking antacids.

I went to the doctor recently for a check-up. She took my blood and a few days later she told me that it was a bit irregular, and that it's possible I might have gallstones. I've been having stomach pains for the past few days but I don't know if it's symptoms of gallstones or just my period about to come. if it were to be gallstones, what would be the symptoms?? I'm really scared if it is, I've never had surgery in my life

stone cause left tummy pain very low almost at the bladder. if also usually will give you frequent urination. cloudy urine and somtimes even blood in the urine. you may have gallstone but often they arent an issue if left alone untill they start to become painful. when they grow to a large size and press on teh nerves inside of the gallbladder it will be so painful you most likley will throw up from pain. if that isnt the case and thares no blood in teh urine or cloudy urine and you arent peeing every five mins. then even if you do have them they arent a big issue yet. its always a good idea to have them removed to prevent problems but its not super urgent if you arent having these kinds of symptoms.

Gallstones you would have so much pain that you would think you were having a heart attack.
In fact until they rule it out that is what most doctors think you are having, stomach pains mean you could have an infection or coming down with something like the flu;blood work with high white count confirms it.

(Slowly-progressing obstruction, as from a tumor, does not cause biliary colic.) behind the obstruction, fluid accumulates and distends the ducts and gallbladder. in the case of hepatic or common bile duct obstruction, this is due to continued secretion of bile by the liver. in the case of cystic duct obstruction, the wall of the gallbladder secretes fluid into the gallbladder. It is the distention of the ducts or gallbladder that causes biliary colic.

Characteristically, biliary colic comes on suddenly or builds rapidly to a peak over a few minutes.

• It is a constant pain, it does not come and go, though it may vary in intensity while it is present.
• It lasts for 15 minutes to 4-5 hours. if the pain lasts more than 4-5 hours, it means that a complication – usually cholecystitis – has developed.
• The pain usually is severe, but movement does not make the pain worse. in fact, patients experiencing biliary colic often walk about or writhe (twist the body in different positions) in bed trying to find a comfortable position.
• Biliary colic often is accompanied by nausea.
• Most commonly, biliary colic is felt in the middle of the upper abdomen just below the sternum.
• The second most common location for pain is the right upper abdomen just below the margin of the ribs.
• Occasionally, the pain also may be felt in the back at the lower tip of the scapula on the right side.
• on rare occasions, the pain may be felt beneath the sternum and be mistaken for angina or a heart attack.
• An episode of biliary colic subsides gradually once the gallstone shifts within the duct so that it is no longer obstructing.

Biliary colic is a recurring symptom. Once the first episode occurs, there are likely to be other episodes. Also, there is a pattern of recurrence for each individual, that is, for some individuals the episodes tend to remain frequent while for others they tend to remain infrequent. The majority of people who develop biliary colic do not go on to develop cholecystitis or other complications.

For a while now, I have been lactose intolerant; but i still eat dairy almost daily, and it usually just causes me to have diarrhea. Okay, so about 3 weeks ago I thought I had pancreatic cancer after reading about it online. I then couldn't stop thinking about it time and time again. And before that I had a few stomach pains that were pretty bad, but since then I haven't had them. That's why I looked online and found pancreatic cancer. I since then cannot stop thinking about it and I for sure know that I have it even thought I've been to the doctors twice already and I told her my symptoms but she doesn't think I have it at all and neither does my family. My concern was that sometimes I'll get stomach pains that will then go to my back every now and then. also I'll have stool that will float, but that IS NOT diarrhea, but it floats…(it is also brown and not the clay color). also now I'm starting to have a little pain on the upper left portion of my abdomen below my ribs. No, you may not get pancreatic cancer by thinking of it… if that was the case we would all be millionnaires for thinking of money. However it is evident by your excessive worry that you may need an examination by a doctor of medicine and/or psychology. It may make you feel better by seeing a doctor and be sure to tell the physician exactly what is concerning you and why…better yet, bring a copy of your posting and let him direct you from there.

We all have aches and pains from time to time. It could be your diet, if you aren't eating fresh vegetables, fruit and fibre then you could get all sorts of stomach pains.
Floating poo doesn't mean anything, the colour or shade of brown doesn't really matter (unless it is very pale or you have blood in it). The poo can change from day to day depending on what you have eaten.
You are worrying too much and thinking about it too much. I feel like crap a lot of the time and I am sure it is just from lack of sleep and not enough regular exercise.
I think you are paranoid, but if you insist that there is something really wrong then you will have to get a full check up. It's up to you.

I was on a low carb diet and did not eat any breads for the past month and I felt great! my stomach pains, bloating, and constipation, and lethargy went away. As soon as I began introducing bread in small amounts back into my diet, I started to get the same symptoms again that I have had my whole life. Could this be an allergy to bread, namely wheat?

You could have Celiac's disease. It sounds more like an intolerance than an allergy to me.

For the past three days I've been having really bad stomach pains and dizzy spells.
After I have a dizzy spell, I get really drowsy and tired.

I used to get jaundiced all the time and bad stomach pains, nausea etc for 20 years and only when I went to liver clinic and they did scan that they discovered I had gallstones. 5 years ago they took out my gall bladder and stones. Supposed to be key hole surgery, but have 8 inch scar, but never felt better.
