Hello~
Up to 60% of lyme infected people never see a rash (or a tick or tick bite for that matter)
mdjunction.com/forums/lyme-di…

Symptoms vary. Many people start out with flu like symptoms but there are really no symptoms excluded. here is a short list. you can have any combo:

Unexplained fevers, sweats, chills, or flushing
Unexplained weight change–loss or gain
Fatigue, tiredness, poor stamina
Unexplained hair loss
Swollen glands
Sore throat
Testicular pain/pelvic pain
Unexplained menstrual irregularity
Unexplained milk production: breast pain
Irritable bladder or bladder dysfunction
Sexual dysfunction or loss of libido
Upset stomach
Change in bowel function-constipation, diarrhea
Chest pain or rib soreness
Shortness of breath, cough
Heart palpitations, pulse skips, heart block
Any history of a heart murmur or valve prolapse?
Joint pain or swelling
Stiffness of the joints, neck, or back
Muscle pain or cramps
Twitching of the face or other muscles
Headache
Neck creeks and cracks, neck stiffness, neck pain
Tingling, numbness, burning or stabbing sensations, shooting pains
Facial paralysis (Bell's Palsy)
Eyes/Vision: double, blurry, increased floaters, light sensitivity
Ears/Hearing: buzzing, ringing, ear pain, sound sensitivity
lncreased motion sickness, vertigo, poor balance
Lightheadedness, wooziness
Tremor
Confusion, difficulty in thinking
Difficulty with concentration, reading
Forgetfulness, poor short term memory
Disorientation: getting lost, going to wrong places
Difficulty with speech or writing
Mood swings, irritability, depression
Disturbed sleep-too much, too little, early awakening
Exaggerated symptoms or worse hangover from alcohol

If you suspect Lyme disease, you will need to arm yourself with knowledge and know how to find a Lyme Literate Medical Doctor (LLMD) – your life could depend on it.

In your search for information on Lyme disease, you will see a lot of conflicting information. Much of that information will be from or endorsing the diagnosis and treatment guidelines of the IDSA. it is important to know that the IDSA Lyme guidelines have been found fraudulent by the CT Attorney General. you can confirm that here:

I am on penicillin and am concerned that I don't feel that much better. I had been told by a relative that improvements should be remarkable and immediate, even after a dose or two. That has not been the case.

I have been searching the internet and have not found much information on strep throat from the PATIENT'S point of view – e.g., what he/she might feel after taking antibiotics, and what the perceived effects and benefits should be.

Days 1 and 2 I felt sore throat, ear pressure, swollen glands, sinus infection, no coughing. Day 3 I went to the doctor and tested positive for strep (rapid test). That evening I took my first dose of 2x daily 500 mg penicillin VK (ten day course). Now is the morning of Day 5 (only 4 doses so far – meds started in the evening of Day 3 ) and I feel about the same. Given that it is Memorial Day weekend, do I have the doctor paged to get me on something else? Or does this require patience?

Please cite your source of information or expertise.

You certainly should have noticed a drastic difference by day 5. you should have the doctor paged or go to a walk-in clinic that is open to get another prescription. since this antibiotic isn't effective against the strep, you're basically walking around with an infection that's just getting worse. One of the main complications of untreated strep throat is meningitis. Call your doctor immediately.

i've had strep throat twice. i did not not take penicilian. i drunk green tea with chinese honey and in two days, it was gone!! you need to buy the green tea with the chinese symbols on it.

I saw a doctor and she tested me for anemia and sent me on my way…she really had no idea what she was doing, and she knew this. she refered me to a sports med doctor since I am a cross country runner and I came in due to these symptoms affecting my running.

any ideas as to what this is…

By Elizabeth Wasserman

When there's an illness in the family, the first place Andrea Rosenthal turns to for advice is the Internet. It's not that the mother of two trusts all online web sites for diagnoses. But if her son has swollen glands in his throat or her daughter has a rash, Rosenthal says looking up the symptoms on a site such as WebMD can help her diagnose the best step to take to care for her kids.

“I like to use the Internet to figure out whether or not to take them to the doctor,” Rosenthal says. “Or to figure out what type of doctor to see.”

There's no doubt: It's easy to search the web for medical advice these days. A recent survey by the Pew Internet & American Life Project found 79% of Internet users have researched at least one health topic online, from diseases or medical treatments to medications. in addition to health reference sites, the Internet provides an opportunity to connect with others suffering from similar maladies — or their families. there are autism support groups. there are discussion groups for sufferers with colitis and Crohn's disease. Cancer survivors have also formed online communities.

But medical experts warn that some of the information you find online might hurt more than help. with the click of a mouse, you might end up with a misdiagnosis or order dangerous medications. “It's definitely not a substitute for your medical doctor's advice,” says Dr. Michael Smith, medical editor at WebMD. Dr. Smith adds that the Internet can be a valuable tool for helping you to “fully understand medical information and make more informed health choices for you and your family.”

Anyone can put up an “Rx” web site, so here's how to separate quality medical advice from potential quacks:

Rx Tip #1: Verify the site's sponsor

find out who's behind a so-called medical site before you take the advice to heart. Is a medication being recommended by a research institution, the company that manufacturers the drug, or a blogger whose only qualification may be that he was born in a hospital? These days, a large number of medical web sites that seem like editorial or unbiased advice sites are actually produced by pharmaceutical companies. To steer clear of pure marketing sites, check out the online guide by the 200-year-old non-profit, the Medical Libraries Association: User's Guide to Finding and Evaluating Health Information on the Web. the MLA's first piece of advice is to check whether the site has an advisory board or consultants. the MLA also advises that web addresses can also provide clues about sponsorship. A government agency's site should end in “.gov,” a university's site should end in “.edu,” a health professional organization should be identified by “.org.” On the other hand, a “.com” site can be trickier — it might be run by a company that wants to sell you something. To probe deeper, review the copyright information on the site or terms of service to find out who's really behind the site.

Rx Tip #2: Check credentials

Medical advances are made daily, so avoid taking advice from a site that's stale. “You don't want to be reading information that was published on a health site five years ago and hasn't been reviewed since,” Smith says. Another red flag is when a site presents more opinion than fact and doesn't label its content as such. Many bloggers opine about medical topics, and you may agree or disagree with their views, but don't necessarily decide that you have lung cancer just because a site says your cough is a sure sign of the disease. the MLA suggests that creditable online medical information should disclose its source — professional studies, abstracts, or links to other web pages. Beware also of sites that volunteer to give you an over-the-Internet diagnosis for a serious ailment. no web site is a replacement for meeting with your physician if your condition requires medication or immediate attention, Smith says.

Rx Tip #3: use trusted sources

one of the safest places to get online medical information online is from an organization or agency that you already know and trust. the National Cancer Institute provides information about cancers, treatments, clinical trials, and other literature. the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offers information about maladies from Avian Influenza to Zoster (aka Chicken Pox). the American Academy of Family Physicians provides advice on how to choose a doctor and has a run-down on over-the-counter medications, what they are and how they work.

Several research hospitals and clinics also post resourceful information online, such as the prestigious Mayo Clinic. the Journal of the American Medical Association web site features articles on everything from opiate analgesia in abdominal pain to respiratory effects of a smoking ban in public places. several commercial sites also have earned reputations for providing credible information. WebMD, which has all content reviewed by certified physicians and specialists, has a handy symptom checker, where you can click on a part of the body to see what possible ailments could be causing your pain. HealthCentral features medically-reviewed content from doctors, researchers and patients on combating everything from cold sores to gangrene. And of course, well-known physicians who appear on TV and have written best-selling books, such as Dr. Weil or Dr. Oz, who have their own web sites as well.

When in doubt, if the tips from the web don't work or you can find the support or information you need, it's always best to see your doctor. But in some cases, some trusty web research could mean you can save yourself a co-pay and time, says Rosenthal: “I don't need to see a doctor if it's something I can handle at home.”

ALEXANDRIA TWP. — The Hunterdon County Department of Health is investigating what officials called “an unusual high number of streptococcal diseases” in Lester D. Wilson school children and faculty.

About 60 cases of strep and seven cases of scarlet fever have been reported to the department by the LDW nurse since mid-October.

According to Superintendent Dr. Matthew Jennings, 13 students were out today, but not all of them were because of strep symptoms. “That’s not unusual,” he said.

There have been a few cases at Alexandria Middle School, but the bulk of infections have been among younger students. Two or three teachers have had strep as well, Jennings said.

The number of cases over a short term, Jennings said, “raised a red flag.” According to Jennings, the LDW nurse has been continually updating the Health Department. Parents were notified via the district’s email alert system on Dec. 10.

Wilson School has about 240 students; there are 325 at the middle school. The district has about 60 teachers.

Strep symptoms can include cough, fever, tender or swollen glands in the neck, white or yellowish patches in the throat and sometimes vomiting. Scarlet fever is a strep infection accompanied by a skin rash. Left untreated, both can lead to serious complications, according to a Health Department release.

Strep throat is spread through direct contact or exposure to respiratory droplets. According to Health Department spokesman Carl Rachel, simple measures such as sneezing and coughing into one’s sleeve or elbow and proper hand washing can help reduce its spread.

At LDW students’ desks have been rearranged from clusters into rows and the water fountains have been shut off to help stem the spread of the disease. Children are encouraged to bring bottled water from home.

While the overall number of infections is unusual, Jennings said that the school has not seen a notable percentage of absences due to strep at one time, which might have necessitated shutting down.

Parents can help slow the spread of the disease by “(keeping) kids home if they’re diagnosed,” Jennings said.
