Hi im 16 and i have been told by kids at school that i might have ADHD as im always talking a lot coming up with random things and breaking silents in school also my mood changes a lot so what are the symptoms and do u think i could have it or anything else ? Im also dyselxic

Your symptoms seem like symptoms of being a teenager. You'll get over it – just wait a few years.

ADHD seems to me to be an attempt to control kids who have not otherwise been taught or parented, and to begin treating them with an amphetamine seems ludicrous! those used to be something that people were taught to avoid and say "NO" to when offered by illegal drug dealers, because they cause all manner of physical and mental health issues, up to and including death.

Stop labeling yourself. you say "I'm dyslexic". It's true that you MAY be. or there MAY be something to the whole ADHD thing, and you might have it. To take responsibility for your own actions, your own successes and failures, is a lot more important than the label – which is often just an excuse. yes, success or learning will be more difficult if you've truly got dyslexia. in the future, your boss isn't going to want the label – he'll want the skills to do the job and he'll want results. ADA won't even help if your "disability" interferes with the requirements for doing the job – like the nohow and care to do the job.

hey random but your alot like me im 15 dyselxic and have had ADHD since i wass 7 . Not fun . but you seem like you have some symptoms i also have a real hard concentrating in school because of my ADHD but go to your doctor and have them test you because the medicine they give you really helps

ATLANTA — There they sat, side by side, the baseball coach and his freshman outfielder, adorned in matching black-and-gold warm-up suits.

Thankfully, the attire wasn’t their only match.

Even though his right side was still tender and sore, Kevin Jordan hasn’t felt this good since last February, when a mysterious illness began sapping his strength and eventually caused his kidneys to shut down.

To his right was Wake Forest coach Tom Walter, who has always considered his players to be like family. No one will ever doubt the sincerity of those words. not after he gave up one of his healthy kidneys so the 19-year-old Jordan would have a shot at a normal, healthy life.

“I’m just really thankful,” the teenager said at a news conference Wednesday, two days after the coach’s kidney was transplanted in him at Emory University Hospital. “This is as good as it gets. I don’t have words for it right now.”

Walter had volunteered to be tested after he learned of Jordan’s illness, which forced Jordan to hook up to a dialysis machine for nine hours each night. as it became more likely Walter’s kidney might be needed, the Wake Forest compliance officer checked with the NCAA to make sure there were no violations of the extra benefits rule.

Not that Walter would have let the threat of probation stop him.

“I talked it over with our athletic director (Ron Wellman), and he probably said it best when he said we were answering to a higher calling on this one,” Walter said.

Jordan’s mother and brother weren’t compatible for a transplant, and his father wasn’t even eligible because he has high blood pressure. Walter, it turned out, was a match. when he got the news last month, he never wavered on his decision to give up a part of himself so Jordan would have a chance at a long, healthy life.

“I didn’t want Kevin to wait one more day if I could help it,” Walter said.

Without a living donor willing to donate a kidney, Jordan likely would have waited for three to five years for one to become available. that almost certainly would have ruined his dreams of reaching the major leagues.

Now, everything is back in play.

“Baseball was always there for me,” Jordan said. “As soon as my body agrees with me and I’m allowed to start playing, I’m going to start playing again.”

Dr. Allan Kirk, who took part in the 3½-hour transplant operation, said there’s no reason Jordan can’t be like any other player. He’ll have to wait about eight weeks before he can start swinging a bat, but assuming the kidney performs well and there’s no signs of rejection, he can count on being ready to go next season.

“He should live a life that is normal in activity, normal in length,” Kirk said. “His abilities should be back, sliding and all. even reaching over the wall, he should be able to do that.”

Jordan felt anything but normal last February, when he began suffering from flulike symptoms. He would eventually lose 30 pounds off his sturdy, 198-pound frame, but he played on at Northside High School in Columbus, Ga., the pro scouts wondering quietly what was wrong.

He wasn’t as strong as he had been. He wasn’t as fast.

Doctors in his hometown couldn’t pinpoint the problem. Finally, Jordan’s parents took him to Atlanta, where he learned in June — shortly after his high school was eliminated from the state playoffs and before he left for Wake Forest — that he had ANCA vasculitis, a type of autoimmune swelling disorder caused by abnormal antibodies.

When those abnormalities show up in the kidneys, they can cause blood and protein to leak into the urine, leading to a shutdown. That’s what happened to Jordan. He enrolled at Wake Forest and went to classes during the fall semester. Baseball was out, though he would show up to take batting practice and shag flies when he felt well enough.

Walter agreed in August to be tested, unsure if he would be needed. Jordan was overwhelmed by his coach’s ultimate act of unselfishness.

“I didn’t even ask him,” the player said. “He asked me.”

The coach has always felt that sense of duty. Walter was at the University of new Orleans when the city was devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. He lived in a FEMA trailer at the baseball field and helped return the program to national prominence.

After moving to Wake Forest in 2009, he was again ready to answer the call when fate threw a curve.

“I do believe in divine intervention,” Walter said. “I was in new Orleans when the hurricane hit. I felt like I was meant to be there with those guys. certainly, I was meant to be here with Kevin. I don’t feel like I’m a hero in any shape or form. this was just about doing the right thing.”

Sure, there were some reservations. Walter has two young children of his own, an 11-year-old son and an 8-year-old daughter.

“One of the things you think about is, what happens if one of your kids needs a kidney and you can’t provide it?” Walter said. “But you can’t worry about things like that. It’s like never leaving the house because you’re afraid you’ll get hit by a car. You can’t live like that.”

Then there were Jordan’s parents, dealing with having a once-healthy son depend on a machine to keep him alive.

“To see someone who had never been sick a day in his life get to the point where he doesn’t have any energy at all,” said Charlene Jordan, Kevin’s mother. “Now, to see him today, saying he feels like can go out and do the things he did before, what a relief.”

Walter expects to return home to North Carolina on Thursday. Jordan will likely be released as a day or two later.

Both have big plans.

For Walter, the season opener at LSU is less than two weeks away. He has every intention of being there.

“I feel fantastic,” the coach said. “I feel like if I had to get on that plane today to LSU, I could do it.”

As for Jordan, he hopes to get close to full strength by the summer, in time to hone his considerable skills during fall scrimmages. Then, next February, he can get started on his college career — a year behind schedule, but with a new sense of purpose.

“I’ll do whatever coach asks me to do,” said Jordan, who was drafted by the new York Yankees last summer. “If he wants me to get a bunt down, whatever, I can’t see myself saying no to anything.

“Part of his body is in mine now.”

After Walter and Jordan went back to their rooms Wednesday, the families hung out together again, comparing notes on two people who’ll forever share a special bond.

Keith Jordan mentioned that his son is a left-handed hitter who throws right handed.

“Really?” Walter’s sister Jennifer Christianson shot back. “Did you know that Tom bats left and throws right, too?”

She smiled, pondering their similarity.

“See, they’re a match,” Christianson said.

The pregnant pop star has debuted the promo for her new track F**kin’ Perfect, which sees Napoleon Dynamite actress Tina Marjorino playing a teenager struggling with bullying and self-esteem issues who turns to cutting herself.

Pink has now opened up about the controversial video, revealing she fully expected it to “ruffle some feathers”, but hopes viewers will take a positive message from it.

in a post on her Pinkspage.com website, she writes, “I’m sure my newest video for F**kin’ Perfect will be much like some of my other videos, which basically means I expect it will ruffle some feathers… I want art to make me think. in order to do that, it may p**s me off, or make me uncomfortable. that promotes awareness and change, or at least some discussion. that is my intention…

“Cutting, and suicide, two very different symptoms of the same problem, are gaining on us… A lot of us have seen certain starlets showing off their latest scars on a red carpet somewhere, usually right before they head back to their favourite rehab.

“It’s a problem, and it’s something we should talk about. we can choose to ignore the problem, and therefore ignore this video, but that won’t make it go away. I don’t support or encourage suicide or cutting. I support the kids out there… I want them to know I’m aware. I have been there. I see them. Sometimes that’s all it takes.”

Pink also admits her pregnancy made the experience of filming the promo even more harrowing for her.

A provocative new study finds that limiting television exposure in our children is not enough to stop its influence.

According to Harvard Medical School researchers, indirect media exposure — such as having friends who watch a lot of TV — might be even more damaging to a teenager’s body image.

Researchers examined the link between media consumption and eating disorders among adolescent girls in Fiji.

What they found was surprising. the study’s subjects did not even need to have a television at home to see raised risk levels of eating disorder symptoms.

In fact, by far the biggest factor for eating disorders was how many of a subject’s friends and schoolmates had access to TV. By contrast, researchers found that direct forms of exposure, like personal or parental viewing, did not have an independent impact, when factors like urban location, body shape and other influences were taken into account.

It appeared that changing attitudes within a group that had been exposed to television were a more powerful factor than actually watching the programs themselves. in fact, higher peer media exposure was linked to a 60 percent increase in a girl’s odds of having a high level of eating disorder symptoms, independently of her own viewing.

Lead author Anne Becker, M.D., Ph.D., vice chair of the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School, said this was the first study to attempt to quantify the role of social networks in spreading the negative consequences of media consumption on eating disorders.

“our findings suggest that social network exposure is not just a minor influence on eating pathology here, but rather, is the exposure of concern,” she said.

“If you are a parent and you are concerned about limiting cultural exposure, it simply isn’t going to be enough to switch off the TV. If you are going to think about interventions, it would have to be at a community or peer-based level.”

Becker hopes the paper will encourage debate about responsible programming and the regulation of media content to prevent children from secondhand exposure.

“up until now, it has been very difficult to get people who produce media as entertainment to come to the table and think about how they might ensure that their products are not harmful to children,” she said.

This is Becker’s second study of media’s impact in Fiji, an ideal location for broadcast media research because of the recent arrival of television, in the 1990s, and the significant regional variations in exposure to TV, the Internet and print media. some remote areas in the recent study still did not have electricity, cell phone reception, television or the Internet when the data were collected in 2007.

Her first study found a rise in eating disorder symptoms among adolescent girls following the introduction of broadcast television to the island nation in 1995.

What makes Fiji a particularly interesting case is that traditional culture prizes a robust body shape, in sharp contrast to the image presented by Western television shows such as “Beverly Hills 90210,” “Seinfeld” and “Melrose place,” which were quite popular in Fiji when television debuted there in the 1990s.

Girls would see actresses as role models, Becker said, and began noting how a slender body shape was often accompanied by success in those shows. This perception appears to have been one of the factors leading to a rise in eating pathology among the Fijian teenagers.

But until now, it was not known how much of this effect came from an individual’s social network.

Dr. Nicholas Christakis, professor of medical sociology in the Department of Health Care Policy at Harvard Medical School, has studied the spread of health problems through social networks.

“it shouldn’t be that surprising to us, even though it is intriguing, that the indirect effects of media are greater,” Christakis said.

“most people aren’t paying attention to the media, but they are paying attention to what their friends say about what’s in the media. It’s a kind of filtration process that takes place by virtue of our social networks.”

Becker said that although the study focused on Fijian schoolgirls, remote from the US, it warrants concern and further investigation of the health impact on other populations.

Okay, so I think my daughter may have add or adhd, I'm not really sure of the symptoms and I don't want to go to the doctor without knowing if she actually has the symptoms.

So, she's 13 years old.
She will set something down and get distracted and go do something else. She loses things very easily. Maybe it's just a memory thing, but she gets distracted. She cannot keep still. She has to be moving her legs or something. even when she sleeps she isn't still! Does that sound like any form of add or adhd?

I'm including a couple of links to free tests. My suggestion is to sit down with your daughter and take them together if you can't answer all the questions based on your observation.

It certainly does sound like it could be ADD / ADHD, but there also could be other things going on.

Remember, she is going through puberty. that accounts for a great amount of change in a teenager's life. something to pay attention to – is she different from her peers in this way? Does it only happen at certain times of the month?

I'm an ADD'r and yes she does "sound" like one of us.
