I woke up Friday morning with a raging sore throat. as the day progressed I felt worse and worse. Body aches…fever etc. So I went to the doctor on Saturday and was told I tested postive for strep. the doctor gave me a 10 day prescription of amoxicillin. now my question is this: how long do the symptoms remain after you start taking the amoxicillin? I do not think I have ever in my life had such severe pain in my throat! It is so hard to swallow and I have not had a full nights sleep in two days now. I am manging my fever alternating between tylenol and ibuprofen. I have taken three amoxicillin caps so far, which equals to one day.

thats normal strep-throat and yes it sucks you should start feeling better soon but if your not better by monday or tuesday I would atleast call your dr's office and check in with them there maybe something they can suggest you do for sleep and the sore throat but myself generally after about 24hours of the anitbiotic it usually takes the fever away and then I feel better……get well soon…..happy New Year

Use warm saline gargles for further relief. Two days should make you feel better, but not completely cure you.

Normally you would have relief in 48 hours. Don't forget to finish your prescription. Don't stop taking the antibiotics when the pain stops because the infection is not completely gone. If the pain persists on the third day contact the doctor and get a stronger prescription.

I ask because I've been taking Tylenol almost daily for pain in my foot and then again nightly (sleep aid form) almost consistently for the last four years and I was just recently told that it could be damaging to the health of my liver.

This drug, taken in excess, can cause a problem
with the liver. If this drug is taken with
alcohol, it can destroy the liver cells almost
immediately.

This drug taken at a normal range may not
cause damage to the liver cells…however,
being on it this long….it would be best
to see about having blood test every so
often to be sure.

It would be wise to speak to your doctor about
having some blood tests done to see how
your liver is doing…this way you will be sure
if there is a problem, then it can be treated
right away.

Usually, when there is a problem, the liver
has inflammation inside that may cause it
to start to enlarge in size. the liver is
a very quiet organ about any damage that
may occur…no signs or symptoms…until
it is too late and the cells have died off.
To ease your mind…I think I would discuss
all this with your doctor asap.

You shouldn't be taking any medication for that long without a Dr knowing about it.
Go to your Gp and ask them do a blood test to check your liver function ( LFT ) if you are worried.
And stop taking the meds.

have had my thyroid tested, normal, am having hot flashes, panic attacks, anxiety, insomnia, dry skin. my mother and grandmother where done with menopause at 40. any answers or suggestions are appreciate…

Try some evening primrose oil, even my gyn thinks it's good. Found in the vitamin isle.

My hormone levels are still high, but i'm only having a period, every third month, but every month, I still get the crappy symptoms just no blood, that's ok though.

I am 56 and this is when my older sis started hving the same symptoms.

Evening primrose is for hot or even clammy feeling, The dry skin is awful, so keep a lot cold cream/face cream handy.

I already take a pill for sleeping, but sometimes it doesn't work, get some tylenol pm.

I recommend you try supplementing with bio identical hormones. Oestrogen can be bought in gel form which makes opting for a small dose very easy.
I do this as my oestrogen levels are still good. my Endocrinologist says that oestrogen can appear within normal range but produce unpleasant symptoms in some women as the body dislikes even a small drop.

A spokeswoman for Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa said theEmergency Department has had several cases of sore throat, upperrespiratory infection, ear pain and coughs in recent days.

The number of cases reported at the Mercy Emergency Departmentis up slightly from seasons past, but it’s a pretty normal year,she said.

The number one illness reported to Mercy Family Health Line,however, is stomach flu, properly known as viralgastroenteritis.

“We’ve had the most calls over the last two months for thestomach flu,” said Melissa Foster, clinical leader at Mercy FamilyHealth Line.

“Truly, it’s the number one call.”

Symptoms include diarrhea, vomiting and low-grade fever. It isoccurring in both adults and children, Foster said.

Caused by a virus, the illness has to run its course. Patientsare advised to take Tylenol, rest and drink plenty of liquids.

Electrolyte replacement drinks such as Gatorade and Powerade areespecially good for adults, Foster said. for children, Pedialyte, arehydration solution, is recommended.

“If you are sick, stay home and don’t expose others to it.”

I had a severe clenching feeling in my chest, no pain, but it felt like someone was squeezing my heart, and I couldn't move my hands. I could barely move my legs, and my breathing was quick and deep. I had the feeling like when your foot goes to sleep, only it was in my whole body, and it was 5 times more severe. I'm wondering if my heart stopped, and the blood stopped circulating. it was around 90-95 degrees when it happened today. My parents carried me into the shower and it cooled me down. I took a Tylenol and drank a glass of water and I felt ok, but still had a dull clenching in my chest, and felt a little shaky. It's about three hours after it happened and I still feel mildly shaky and jittery. I'm wondering if I had heat exhaustion, heat stroke, or something else. I don't see clenching chest feelings or stiffness of limbs anywhere online for symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. do I have something else? I'm a 14 year old male, about 120 lbs. thanks.

Well, a really bad and very unlikely diagnosis could be a heart attack, but for a 14 year old boy would be a stretch, you probably are dehydrated, but just in case you should see a doctor a.s.a.p.

Hey I live in AZ and I have had a few times where I was suffering from heat exhaustion, its almost like you are about to pass out and you get sick to your stomach and dizzy … I have never experienced Chest discomfort or pain.. that does not sound like a heat related ailment…. I would get checked out. did you eat a good meal today? and what where you doing when this happened? I think you should really consider getting checked.. You are too young to have symptoms like this for no reason whatsoever.. Be careful otherwise …

Just drink plenty of liquids and get plenty of rest. Chicken noodle soup might be something good to eat

Keep hydrated, with drinking water or sports drinks, and using a humidifier if possible. Tylenol will temporarily bring your fever down. and rest, rest, rest. Work, School, hobbies, friends, etc. will just have to wait until you are better.

Drink orange juice (plenty of it),theroflu, and nightquyl. put p.j.s on along with some socks and sweat it out. If you do it right you should feel better with in a day or two.

You need to talk to your doctor for that. it is okay to take some medications while you are pregnant, but two or three days is the maximum you should be taking any medicine a doctor recomends you take. He might recommend that you take other medicine for your flu-symptoms.

I suffered with the flu while pregnant. my doctor told me the only thing I could and shoould take was tylenol (acetominophin), but that just amy bee cause I was somewhere aroung 7 or 8months call your doctor and ask him. I wouldn;t take anything without his go ahead.

I have a severe headache in the lower right hemisphere of my head and it's been lasting for around six hours so far. It's more of a pain like something is pushing against it or there's a stabbing pressure in that area. I don't have any other symptoms except when I cough it's hurts more and I'm a little bit dazed and uncomfortable.
When I lie down, the pain goes away but once i get up the pain comes back really badly.

Sounds like a migraine. Stay down, drink water, keep taking advil or aspirin or tylenol, whichever you prefer. If tomorrow it's the same, I'd see a doctor.

I've been having headaches the last few days and tylenol isnt helping. I also have been getting light headed and dizzy which is not normal. I have been feeling tired when I've done little or nothing and dont really feel like doing anything either. Someone also commented that I was very red faced. I am 32 and I otherwise good health. Does this sound like high blood pressure or something else?

headaches,dizziness,irritability and yes it sounds like high blood get it checked. you can get it checked free at most drug stores or at wal-mart

To me it sounds like high blood pressure cuz i had some of the same symptoms. go to the doctor and have them check your blood pressure. They will be able to better tell you what you need to know.

High Blood Pressure is called the silent killer because you can have it with no symptoms at all. But with the symptoms you described I would suggest getting to a Doctor soon. there could be many things including high blood pressure or a heart problem. Heart problems can happen at any age so don't dismiss that idea too fast. go to the doctor better safe than sorry.

There are free blood pressure testing at some drug stores. Please get it checked.

High blood pressure will tear your arteries and possibly give you a grave risk for kidney damage, stroke, or an aneurism.

Unfortuately, there are NO clear risk signs of high blood pressure….hence it's called the silent killer. Blood pressure will creep up until it's too late.

It can also be low blood pressure and/or hormonal disbalance. See a doctor!
