Hospital presents free sinus program

A free presentation, “Updates in Sinus & Allergy Treatments,” will take place Thursday, Jan. 27, at 6 p.m., at the Hanover Hospital Wellness & Education Center, 400 York St., Hanover. A light dinner will be served at 5 p.m.

Zaher Srour, M.D., an ear, nose and throat and facial plastic specialist at Hanover Medical Group Ear, Nose & Throat, Hanover, will discuss the newest sinus and allergy treatments available at the Hanover Sinus Center of Excellence, including:

Sinus headaches and migraines

Allergy/sinusitis symptoms and medication treatment

Newest allergy testing and treatment methods

Newest technology in minimally invasive surgeries

Balloon Sinuplasty

Fellowship trained in cranial base surgery and facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, Dr. Srour was among the first physicians in the area to receive balloon sinuplasty training shortly after the procedure was approved by the FDA. He has been performing the procedure since 2008, and has completed more than 200 cases at Hanover Hospital, with no complications.

Hanover registering kindergartners

Hanover Public School District will hold kindergarten registration 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, March 11, at the three elementary schools.

Appointments can be made beginning Feb. 8 by calling the schools – 637-9000, extension 100 for Clearview, extension 125 for Hanover Street, and extension 150 for Washington.

the parent or guardian should bring the child as well as the child’s birth or baptismal certificate, child’s immunization record from the doctor, child’s Social Security card and proof of residency (a utility bill). Children must by 5 years old by Sept. 1, 2011, to register.

Heart program for Women planned

Penn State Cooperative Extension in York County will offer the Strong Women-Healthy Hearts Program, a 12-week nutrition and exercise program for women age 40 and over in February.

an informational meeting will be held at the extension office, 112 Pleasant Acres Road, York, on Feb. 1. an orientation will be held on Feb. 3 and classes will begin on Feb. 8, meeting Tuesdays and Thursdays through April 28. All meetings, orientations, and classes will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

the series will be led by Marcia Weber, Penn State Cooperative Extension Family & Consumer Sciences Educator who will take nutritional and physical activity research and translate it into an easy-to-follow program. Participants will gain the knowledge and experience needed to lead a healthier lifestyle.

Hospice looking for volunteers

AseraCare Hospice, a provider of hospice and palliative care services, is looking for volunteers to serve with its “On-Call Volunteer Response Team” in Hanover. the volunteers will provide a comforting presence to patients in the final stages of their disease.

On-Call volunteers hold a hand, read or just sit quietly. They have an opportunity to spend time with someone during one of the most personal and important moments of their lives.

there are no set days or times. Volunteers will be called when there is a need. Volunteers determine which request they want to fill and may turn down request they are unable to do. AseraCare will provide training and mentoring.

Windy Hill to offer Zumba classes

Windy Hill Senior Center will begin offering a new Zumba Gold Class Wednesday, Jan. 12 at 1:00 p.m.

the class that uses Latin styles of music and dance will continue at the same time each Wednesday at the senior center located at 50 North East Street, Spring Grove.

Classes are open to seniors ages 60 and older and are available for $25 for 10 weeks or $3 per class.

this exercise program is designed for the active older adult, beginners or people who may be limited physically.

Friendly’s launches ‘Cones for Kids’

on Monday, Friendly Ice Cream Corp. will launch its 30th annual “Cones for Kids” campaign. the Valentine’s Day fundraiser will benefit Easter Seals Camp Friendly’s program locations in York, with day camp at the Church of the Open Door and in Gettysburg at the first Baptist Church of Gettysburg.

for a $1 donation, Friendly’s provides restaurant guests with five Valentine’s Day cards, redeemable for free Friendly’s Kids Cones plus a $5 off a $25 purchase coupon for parents. the campaign runs Jan. 10 through Feb. 13.
