What are the symptoms of a bone bruise and how do you know if you have one?

i hit my arm really hard because of an accident. it bruised very badly and was swolen . it looked like my arm was bent and it now has hard stuff under the skin adn it still hurts after a couple weeks is it just a bone bruise?
