What are the symptoms of a kidney stone?

by Symptom Advice on December 10, 2010

Today I have been having what I would call bladder pains. they occur right around my pubic line and last only a few seconds. they aren't making me keel over or anything. they are mainly irritating, kind of like a short spasm, like a mild short, stabbing pain. I will get one and a few hours later I get another. At one point, I had about four in a row. last night, I had a pain on my right lower back. could I be passing a stone? I have had an attack like this before with a bladder infection but had buring while urinating , and urgency to go. this time I haven't had any other symptoms but started to drink cranberry juice and lots of water as a precaution. I will wait a day or so before I decide to go to the doc because otherwise I feel great. what do you think it could be?

kidney pain, the presence of pus or blood in the urine, extreme pain when urinating, a small grain of sand in the toilet after you pee. i think you might have a UTI 9urinary tract infection) signs and symptoms occur at different times. you are doing the best thing you can do for yourself without seeing a doctor, drink lots of cranberry juice and water and try to flush out your bladder

pain in the kidneys

I'm a Medical Scientist, according to your symtoms, i would say it is not a stone related problem. but i would say It is a UTI or cystitis. this is because passing of kidney stone will be able to feel the stone moving from the uretra and move to the bladder, when the stone pass through the ureters, you are able to feel an extream pain. your symtoms shows cystitis, which is a form of bladder infection by bacteria. If your urine is cloudy, this might be the main causes. please proceed to a doctor to have early treatment.

Signs and symptoms
You're not likely to have signs and symptoms unless a kidney stone is large, causes a blockage, is associated with an infection or is being passed. Then the most common symptom is an intense, colicky pain that may fluctuate in intensity over periods of five to 15 minutes. The pain usually starts in your back or your side just under or below the edge of your ribs. As the stone moves down the ureter toward your bladder, the pain may radiate to your lower abdomen, groin and genital structures on that side. If the stone stops moving, the pain may stop too. Other signs and symptoms may include:

bloody, cloudy, or foul-smelling urine
nausea and vomiting
persistent urge to urinate
fever and chills if an infection is present

Not all kidney stones cause symptoms. They're often discovered when you have X-rays for an unrelated condition or when you seek medical care for other problems, such as blood in your urine or recurring urinary tract infections. The pain becomes agonizing only when a kidney stone breaks loose and begins to work its way down from your kidneys to your bladder through the connecting tube (ureter).

I think if you had a kidney stone you would know. You would have a lot of pain in your back and I mean pain, a fever and blood in your urine. Are you having mentrual cramps maybe?

Symptoms of a kidney stone are….pain in your side and back, in the kidney area, blood in your urine, and pain in the abdomen. also nausea and vomiting, if the pain gets severe.

No, I do not think so. A kidney stone will laterally bring you to your knees and you will be counting the carpet thread's on the floor. You would not be able to pee with out pain, nor sit, stand, lay or anything… It sounds like you appendix tho.. I would see the Dr…

I get that quite often…or something similar. It's very likely NOT a kidney stone…because a kidney stone will make you keel over and want to die…lol. The pain is unbearable. I had it for a few months, went to the docs and ER multiple times. I had ultrasound after ultrasound, and all sorts of tests done. Their medical opinion: just a weird thing. Doctors…I hate them. It was said that it was a kidney problem, which I took seriously as I have kidney disease in my family…but if you're not in severe, consistent pain…don't worry too much right now. but if it does keep up, go to the Docs just to be on the safe side.

P.S. The pain eventually passed on its own…but it was there for months.
