Note: Devices and equipment are organized in alphabetical order and by specialty or purpose. Orthopedics Allen Lift-Assist Beach Chair from Allen Medical Systems. The Lift-Assist is designed for orthopedic procedures using a bench chair position, such as rotator cuff repair, clavicle repair and total shoulder replacement. the chair attaches to the OR table for improved access to the surgical site. the Lift-Assist mechanism allows for quick repositioning. the surgeon can also move the patient closer to the edge of the OR table for increased surgical site access. ElbowLOC Arm Positioning System from Symmetry Medical. The ElbowLOC Arm Positioning System uses supine patient positioning for elbow procedures and is designed to promote shorter procedural times and eliminate intraoperative arm traction devices. the device was launched through Symmetry’s wholly owned subsidiary, Specialty Surgical Instrumentation.MacroPor-Si+ Bone Graft Substitute from NovaBone. MacroPor-Si+ is a bone graft substitute used during orthopedic surgery. the device is designed as a rapidly absorbable binder and the open structure of the porous component allows for rapid vascularization of the material.OrthoPilot Navigation System from B. Braun. The OrthoPilot is a precise, accurate and reproducible implant positioning system. the system was developed to integrate with the surgical workflow to avoid an extension of operating time. A second goal was to minimize the strain on the patient from navigation procedures. when using the system, surgeons can achieve enhanced implant alignment without preoperative exams or imaging studies, such as CT or MRI scans. Spine Endoskeleton TAS System from Titan Spine. The Endoskeleton TAS system is used for anterior lumbar interbody fusion with integrated fixation screws. It can incorporate macro-, micro- and nano-surface technology textures already available in its Endo TA ALIF system. It also includes integrated grit-blasted screws for 10 degrees of medial/lateral or anterior/posterior angulation. Holmed Swivel Port System from Spine Surgical Innovation. the Holmed Swivel Port System is designed for use during posterior or posterolateral lumbar and cervical spine surgery. the system provides maximum visualization at the distal working site relative to the proximal opening and incision and can be used on its own or to complement other implant systems using a minimally invasive approach. iFuse Implant System from SI-BONE. the iFuse Implant system is designed for minimally invasive sacroiliac joint surgery. the system includes small titanium implants that are inserted across the sacroiliac joint to maximize post-surgical stability and weight-bearing capacity. SOAR Retractor System from Spineology. the SOAR Retractor System includes several retractor lengths and diameters to promote surgical access with minimal disruption. the system integrates neural retraction and articulating discectomy instrumentation with the retractor to improve efficiency. GI Cellvizio from Mauna Kea Technologies. Cellvizio endomicroscopy system was recently approved by the FDA for use in the GI and pulmonary tracts. the system includes improved endomicroscopic image acquisition and interpretations. It also provides real-time microscopic images of tissue inside the body.Endoscopy Basic needs Kit from Cygnus Medical. The Endoscopy Basic needs Kit offers custom kits designed to reduce costs and inefficiencies associated with ordering, stocking and retrieving individual supplies for each procedure. the kit components are limited to only those items used in all of the procedures and can be combined with additional individual items or smaller specialty kits. Gastroscopes from Olympus Medical. Olympus has a full line of diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopes that use HDTV 1080 resolution. the gastroscopes also include narrow band imaging to enhance visualization of the capillary networks and lesions within the mucosa. the scopes also utilize close focus viewing from 2mm for inspecting mucosal surfaces. they are designed for durability and maneuverability to accommodate for efficiency.Remicade from Janssen Biotech. The FDA recently approved Remicade for use in children over six years old who don’t respond to conventional therapy for ulcerative colitis. Remicade has been shown to reduce signs and symptoms of ulcerative colitis as well as inducing and maintaining clinical remission. Pain BiowavePRO Neuromodulation Pain Therapy Systems from Biowave. the Biowave PRO is a pain therapy system focused on non-invasive pain blocking. the system is designed for use among athletes and can be used in a pain clinic setting or by certified athletic trainers. the system has received FDA approval.Epiducer from St. Jude Medical. The Epiducer is a neurostimulation device that allows surgeons to use large leads without having to perform an invasive surgery. the leads are implanted with an epidural sheath and surgeons can implant up to three at a time. the device was recently approved by the FDA.Navigator Delivery System from Carticept Medical. The Navigator Delivery System is a computer-controlled drug delivery system designed to automate preparation and delivery of pain-relieving medications for joint pain. Physicians prescribe the injections, including multi-dose anesthetic and steroid drug veins, and the system will prepare them for their patients. the system received FDA clearance in July.Precision plus Spinal Cord Stimulator from Boston Scientific. Boston Scientific recently received FDA clearance to launch two spinal cord stimulation lead splitters for use with the Precision plus Spinal Cord Stimulator System. the system is a rechargeable device for managing chronic pain, and the splitters allow for multi-site placement of four leads to deliver electrical pulses to the spinal cord. Infection prevention Diamond Blade Cleaning System from Micro-Scientific. The Diamond Blade Cleaning System is designed to disinfect diamond blades without chips or loosening. the system uses the company’s proprietary soft, foam-like material impregnated with its Opti-Kleen detergent to loosen proteins and other deposits. Guide to the Elimination of Orthopedic Surgical Site Infections from APIC and AORN. This is an 80-page guide that the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology developed with the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses to provide tools, strategies and resources for healthcare and infection prevention professionals. the guide includes outcomes reports, preoperative preparation, postoperative best practices and future trends.
