Could these symptoms be the Gallbladder?

by Symptom Advice on December 25, 2010

Middle upper abdomen pain, chest pain, mid to upper back pain at same time.

ive had 2 ekg's done – negative
Abdominal Ultrasound on gallbladder – Negative
endoscopy – small Hiatal Hernia found
colonoscopy – mild divirticulosis found
Hida Scan – Gallbladder working 8%. doctor told me i need to have it removed
blood work on : pancreas, liver, anemia, thyriod, other organs – all negative
urinalysis- negative

this pain gradually starts about an hour after i eat anything
then calms down when i rest. its been goin on for a month

im scheduled to have my gallbladder removed in 2 weeks but this pain is unbearable. could this be just the gallbladder ?

I too have had these same symptoms for the last month or so. I go tomorrow for an endoscopy. My surgeon believes that it is all caused from an ulcer. it doesn't seem to matter what I eat, anything from chicken noodle soup to taco salad will give me the sharp pains. they start within 30 minutes of eating and can last up to two hours later. I have pain in my upper abdomen and sometimes radiating to my sides and my back. I too thought I had gallbladder issues but they are saying they are pretty darn sure it's an ulcer. I'll know more tomorrow after my test. I truly feel your pain! I have quit eating solid foods and I am now drinking several protein shakes a day just so that I can keep up some strength. a good one if you need it is a brand called EAS in the french vanilla flavor. good luck!

it sounds like your gallbladder isn't functioning properly. that can happend even when all lab values are normal. the ultrasound just shows that you don't have fluid around the gb and that you don't have stones. if the hida scan says it's only working 8%, there is your answer. the gb will start to hurt when it's starting to contract to release bile to break up the food you've just eaten. however, if you are at all unsure about your doctor's opinion, get a second one. (a real one.. not just here!) =) before you have the surgery.
Best of luck!

Have you tried eliminating foods that irritate your gallbladder?
