a SURGEON from a private hospital in Brentwood is helping raise awareness of checking for cancer symptoms.

Ramachandran Ravi, from the Spire Hartswood Hospital, in Eagle Way, Brentwood, wants to tell people about the advantages of checking for and detecting prostate cancer.

it comes during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, which is trying to get men to check themselves.

each year, more than 37,000 men in Britain are diagnosed with prostate cancer.

To help raise the awareness of the disease, Dr Ravi will be talking on the radio about how to look out for the condition.

Dr Ravi has treated many people with the condition and wants people to understand the symptoms which, if picked up on early enough, can save someone’s life.

Dr Ravi said: “Urinary symptoms could indicate non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland, which is very common, affecting more than half of all men over the age of 60.

“Alternatively, you may have symptoms related to bladder aging, a urine infection or another simple cause. it is very important to discuss your symptoms with a health professional.”

Once cancerous lumps are found, the process of removing them can be quick, with some cases just requiring one operation and a two-month check up.

Dr Ravi will appear on Phoenix FM’s Bodytalk programme, on March 22, at 7pm, to discuss treating the cancer.
