This is the 9th day I’ve had a cough. The first night, I didn’t have much of a cough, just a sore throat. I took some cough syrup in the middle of the night and when I woke up, the sore throat was gone and I was left with an awful sounding hacking cough. That lasted about 2 days.after the two days, I had a slight cough that wasn’t too much trouble, just a bit annoying, but no sore throat or any other symptoms. I would still take my cough syrup and throat lozenges though.Anyway, on about the 5th day or so, the cough got really bad. I was fine all day and then in the evening, it got so bad I couldn’t breathe without coughing. I had a hot bath, hot tea, cough syrup, pills….everything and nothing would give me even a seconds relief. thank goodness the nighttime pills knocked me out!The next day, my throat was still not sore, the cough was better but my voice was affected. I sounded very raspy and could not make high pitched noises.now it’s 3 days since that awful night and I still have that awful dry cough. it is worse at night. it keeps me awake at night and is really frustrating! I talked to a pharmacist and told him my symptoms, that is it a dry cough coming from my chest with no sore throat. I feel like I want to cough something up but it’s just dry so I always feel like I have to cough again and again non-stop. I took some different cough syrup that the pharmacist suggested and it too gives me not a moments relief.I am so tired from all this coughing and I don’t know what else I can do! I have those embarrassing coughing fits at work and so I take a little more cough medicine than I should..I ended up with a horrible stomach ache yesterday which I believe is due to the medicine.I just want this cough to stop! Should I see my doctor? I have no soreness or pain..could this be a chest infection or just a pesky, lingering cough?
