If you are having sex, hopefully, it is the safe kind. but if you have slipped up and had unsafe sex, you should realize that you are at risk for having contracted a sexually transmitted disease (STD). STDs, left untreated, can create some pretty serious health issues down the road. Contracting an STD can happen to anyone who has been irresponsible with sex. please take a look at the points below and see if any apply to you.
Sometimes, symptoms of STDs are vague or non-existent Maybe you feel fine, or maybe you think you just have a touch of the flu. what you may not realize is that you may be infected with an STD and not know it. especially if you have had unsafe sex.
Almost every STD can be asymptomatic (showing no symptoms). for example, many women carry a Chlamydia infection for years, they never discover it until they have a routine screening during pregnancy. these women are often completely surprised they have the disease because they have been asymptomatic. Chlamydia, unfortunately, can have many adverse effects on a baby including premature delivery and low birth weight.
Your partner may not be monogamous Unfortunately, people are not always faithful in relationships. you know what you’ve been up to; but can you know for sure your partner has been monogamous? Since we can only control our own actions, the smart thing to do is to be tested.
Also, don’t think you are exempt from testing if you are married. did you know that statistics tell us about 70% of women and 54% of men did not know their spouses had cheated on them?
STD symptoms can sometimes seem strange anything out of the ordinary in your genital region may be a symptom of an STD. for example, bumps, sores, or rashes can indicate an STD. other symptoms are vaginal or penile discharge and/or pelvic pain. but, there are many more symptoms than just these. that is why it makes sense for you to be aware of the symptoms for diseases such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, herpes, syphilis, HPV and HIV.
If you catch an STD early through testing, you can treat it sooner. In turn, you will prevent catastrophic damage to your body.
The broken condom Hopefully, you are using a condom. Since we are sure you are being responsible and using one, sometimes, these things do break. If this has happened to you, it is important to be tested.
Keep in mind also that you need to use a condom correctly. know how to put one on, and what kind to use. Latex condoms are much safer than any other kind. also, make sure the condom hasn’t been riding around in your purse or wallet for too long. they do expire.
New relationships something you don’t want to have to explain to your new girlfriend or boyfriend is how you unknowingly gave them an STD. they would have to be very understanding to forgive such a transgression.
Also, since neither one of you know each other very well, you should both consider getting STD testing to make sure both of you are disease free.
No symptoms doesn’t mean you are STD free. STD testing is a simple way to know for sure. Check out this convenient list ofstd testing centers to find the closest center for testing.
