Health, they say is not only about fighting the disease, but also developing a healthy immunity and knowledge that can provide the best practices for prevention. In an attempt perhaps to share a similar thought, Pune based Indus Health plus, in association with Sahyadri Hospital organised a seminar on ?women related Cancer diseases and its prevention? recently at their head office. Addressing the seminar, Dr Shona Nag, Director, Oncology Department, Sahyadri Hospital shared, “Breast cancer and cervical cancer affect the largest number of patients worldwide, whereas it is exactly the opposite in India .Around 5 lakh women are affected with this disease worldwide. Cervical cancer is prominent in rural areas as compared to urban areas, so, proper prevention must be taken for it. Cervical vaccines should be taken at around the age of 12 -14 or before marriage.”
A very informative session was also given by Dr. Anupama Mane, Breast Cancer Surgeon, Sahyadri Hospital . she spoke on signs and symptoms of breast cancer that will help in early detection. ?Changing lifestyle in rural areas and their becoming semi-urban leads to increase in the trends of cancer in women?, she said. she has also advised that women above 40 years of age must undergo mammography regularly. Kanchan Naikawadi, Director, Indus Health plus , who was also present, said,?Early detection, in the case of cancer, can help in prevention. this is a philosophy we strongly advocate through awareness campaigns and such informative seminars. We look forward to many more such informative sessions in the future as well. Early detection is the mantra of the day.?
