A ground beef recall has been issued by California meat and ground beef producer First Class Foods Inc., officials said Friday.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said the 34,373 pounds of meat may by tainted with a strain of E. coli bacteria.

The company said it discovered the potential contamination by routine microbiological sampling of its products. No illnesses were reported.

The products being recalled include:

–16-oz. packages of “Nature’s Harvest Organic Ground Beef Brick” dated to be used or frozen by 12/30/10 or 01/08/11.

–16-oz. packages of Nature’s Harvest Ground Patty containing four 4-oz. patties dated to be used or frozen by 12/30/10 or 01/08/11.

Each package of beef is labeled with the establishment number “EST. 18895″ along with the identifying pack date of 10341 and Julian date of 10350, the Wisconsin State Journal reports.

Consumers can call 310-676-2500 for information on the recall, or call the toll-free USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 1-888-674-6854.

The strain of E. coli can cause symptoms such as bloody diarrhea, dehydration and kidney failure. People experiencing symptoms should contact a physician.
