How do you test for herpes when no symptoms are present?

by Symptom Advice on January 31, 2011

I have researched all over and can't figure out which blood test is the most accurate and how soon it should be performed after exposure….what is the cost of herpes testing? Where can you get it done? all the clinics I can find don't do blood tests…planned Parenthood only does a culture if you have symptoms…I can't have a culture because I have no symptoms!

Help! Confused… :(

Usually they do have "blood tests" for herpes, but they're not exactly reliable unless there are symptoms because it's a skin disease. It's usually the best to see a doctor if you have experienced symptoms.

It would be a waste of time to get blood work done because it's not in your blood it's on your skin.

If you think you have contracted an STD, you should go to your doctor. Most of the procedure should be covered under your health insurance, if you have any. If not, it won't be that expensive. the blood analysis for herpes is fairly simple, and won't take that long either. Expect $200 MAXIMUM. and 4-8 days.

If you've ever had unprotected sexual relations with another person, it’s very important to get tested. STD testing is very affordable especially at the Local STD Testing Centers. you can pay by cash from your own money or your health insurance will answer for it.
