So my mom has chronic pancreatitis and will be living in pain for the rest of her life since there is no cure. We've already established that fact. I want an answer from someone who knows what they're talking about and I want to know how to live a relatively pain free life and some solutions for many of the symptoms. Does anyone know how to deal with the symptoms of pancreatitis and how to maximize the time span between attacks? And does exercise truly help? Because my mom never eats anything and she has gained a ton of weight. some of it is starting to come off because a lot of it was water retention, but nonetheless we have run out of options and now have to make the best with what we have.
Anna, I'm sorry to hear your Mom has this and commend you for wanting to help her deal with it. I too, have Chronic Pancreatitis and it's no picnic, but there are things that may help alleviate her pain and lengthen the span between severe attacks. Unfortunately, most doctors don't know much about treating this condition so you are smart to reach out to people that actually do "live" with it. There are things that help, like digestive enzymes, antioxidant therapies, but it's also important to have a good support system to help relieve some of the stress. I have an online Yahoo health group which is comprised of others that either have the disease or have a family member with it and you can ask questions of others in how they deal with the various treatments, eating, coping and all the things that the doctors can't help with. it is open to caregivers such as yourself who are looking for answers in order to help their mothers, spouses, children, etc. You will not find a better group of caring and supportive people when it comes to issues of the CP. My goal when creating this group was to give Hope to a disease where doctor's give you little to hope for. You can access the homepage at the following link:
