The Estes Park Bobcats boys swim team hits a rough stretch, between illness, injury and competition. The ‘Cats have lost to Silver Creek and Greeley Central while defeating Northridge.Coaches commented that the Bobcats had more boys injured or sick than the Grizzlies had brought from Northridge. Sophomore Forrest Beesley turned an ankle during spring break and is on crutches while Andrew Park has an arm in a sling from a dislocated elbow. several other Bobcats were suffering flu symptoms.On Tuesday, the boys traveled to Longmont to take on the large Raptor squad from Silver Creek. The Bobcats managed only two first-place finishes, 100-yard backstroke, in which Luke Holmes took first and TJ Hall took second, and diving, where Nate Dewitt took first and will Casey took second.The rest of the lineup was jumbled to cover for missing teammates. in the end the ‘Cats lost 120-64.On Thursday, the Bobcats hosted Greeley Central and Northridge for a triangular meet. again, with injury and sickness, the results weren’t what the Estes Park team would normally hope.Highlights included senior Luke Holmes posting a state qualifying time in the 100-yard butterfly, 1:01.13, and a first place. Alex Franklin swam the 500-yard freestyle in 6:14.39, also good for first. Casey and Dewitt switched places with Casey nabbing first in diving with 167.05 points and Dewitt earning 150.55. Jamie Steadman completed the sweep with 90.05 points and third place.The meet was scored as two duals. The Bobcats easily defeat the tired and tiny four-man team from Northridge, 113-38. The ‘Cats came up a bit short against Greeley Central, however, 94-78.The Bobcat re back on the road next week hen they head to Longmont on Tuesday to take on the Trojans at 4 p.m. on Thursday, the boys head down the big Thompson Canyon to Loveland for a duel against traditional powerhouse Thompson Valley. that meet is also scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
