Is it possible for someone to have schizophrenia with only negative symptoms?

by Symptom Advice on April 11, 2011

also, how do you discern among those that suffers from depression, those that are lazy, and those with negative symptoms of schizophrenia such as avolition?

*Avolition is a psychological state characterized by general lack of desire, drive, or motivation to pursue meaningful goals.-wiki

A schiz diagnosis requires some positive symptoms. Negative ones characterize too many other illnesses and problems, depression included.

If you are having issues, see your doctor or a psychiatrist.

PS – you've now heard from someone with schizophrenia and another with bipolar disorder, both of whom know a little bit about this stuff from the informed patient end.

No, that is not possible for someone with schizophrenia to only show negative symptoms, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are just lazy.

If a person thinks they are having a psychiatric problem they should consult a medical doctor with a specialization in psychiatry, not yahoo answers.

Not liking the lazy comment. Hmm, if only you could walk in our shoes.
