Most people suffer from symptoms of sinus infections at one time or another in their time here on the planet earth. A sinus infection is sometimes named sinusitis. Sinusitis is just a swelling of the sinus membranes . A sinus infection is what we refer to when the sinus passages actually become affected by a micro-organism including fungus, virus or bacteria.
Sinus Infections often lead to agony, discomfort and suffering and most often cause you to feel awful .
Also keep in mind that people’s symptoms can vary depending on the individual and also depending on which of the four different sinus cavities are being affected .
Another difference you should consider is whether you have an acute sinus infection or a chronic sinus infection. An acute sinus infection will normally last less than eight weeks or occur fewer than three times annually while a chronic sinus infection will last longer than eight weeks or re-occur four or more times each year . these are general guidelines but are by no means 100% accurate .
Some of the sinus symptoms may include nasal discharge, facial pain or pressure in the infected sinus cavities, fever, headache, toothaches and postnasal drip, irritated throat and fowl breath.
To complicate matters , alot of these symptoms are evident are also existent when your allergies are acting up or when you have a cold. A stuffy nose, for example, can be caused by a common cold, allergies or a sinus infection. many other symptoms can cross over as well.
One thing I look for is colored mucus particularly if it is dark yellow or greenish. This type of mucus obvious type of mucus is often a sign that you have an infection are infected by a pathogen . if your mucus is very thin and clear, this might mean that you are in reality experiencing a seasonal response to seasonal allergens such as pollen .
Sometimes a change in your environment like when you travel to a different part of the country where the humidity is much lower can cause your sinus cavities to become temporarily constricted . This can make matters very difficult to diagnose your symptoms.
Should this happen , you will want to stay fully hydrated as dehydration will often worsen the sinus signs and symptoms. Consuming liquids will help to encourage drainage. Don’t consume alcoholic beverages ,dehydrate you and make your symptoms worse.
Some common ways to relieve the symptoms of sinusitis include inhaling steam, which helps to increase drainage from the sinuses. Using warm compresses near your eyes, nose and cheeks can often ease some of the pain.
Your physician has many techniques that he or she can use to provide you with a definitive answer to your particular condition.
Some of the tools your doctor may use include taking an X-ray of your skull or even taking an MRI or a CAT scan.
If you think you may have a fungal sinus infection then you should go and visit your doctor as soon as possible and get the best sinus course of action available.
