One of the main symptoms of Bone Cancer is pathological fractures. These are fractures that occur without trauma. For example, a person could be stood up looking in a shop window, turn to look over their shoulder and their hip breaks and they end up on the floor.
Pain is also a major factor, in fact bone pain is the worst type of pain there is.
Spinal cancer symptoms include loss of sensation in limbs, feeling of pins and needles and sinal cord compression. This is where the spinal column loses it's support and presses on the cord itself causing possible paralysis in the legs or arms or both.
Bone cancers as primary cancers are very very rare. Osteo Sarcoma is one of the rarest forms of cancer and affects 1 in every 20- 30,000 people.
Cancer of the bone is more common as a metastases (secondary cancer) where the cancer is in the lungs as a primary and breaks off and spreads to the bones.
Cancer of the bones is incurable and is usually a result of widespread long term illness. Radiation therapy and chemotherapy are given for pain relief and symptom control only by the time this stage is reached.
